Thank you all very much! Now I am back and I have enjoyed the trip to the full! Not only did I attend the course on European law in the College of Europe in Brugge (with some of my colleagues) but I also visited such cities in Belgium as Antwerpen, Gent, Brussels and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Besides, I went to art galleries in those cities and I was happy to catch El Greco exhibition in Brussels. It impressed me immensely. I really loved Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. It made me happy...
Most of all I liked Brugge and Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a fantastic city, so beautiful, so colourful, unusual, with adorable houses facing canals. They reminded me of cakes: a chocolate cake, a vanilla cake... Bobber is lucky to live in this wonderful city! People in Amsterdam are very nice, friendly, open and communicative.
BTW when on a bus excursion around Amsterdam I saw through the window the hotel where John and Yoko had their famous sleep-in protest, staying in bed for a week, which was vividly described to us by the guide.
And no doubt I went to the Red Light District (which is not a street but a district). Well, everything was ok, I was safe and survived!

Well, I don't actually. Lived there for a short while (being in love) and studied there. I do live nearby however, about 40 minutes by car.

Bobber, I am really impressed by the city. It is very unusual, with canals along the streets, beautiful houses. The bus excursion took us to the suburbs as well where we could see big mills and ponds. And the excursion lady tried hard to teach us to pronounce the Dutch word for canal, which has some unpronouncable sounds like K-H-R (if I am not mistaken). That was fun!

Is it you who painted the picture? Did you study art? The couple that stayed in Amsterdam...

K-H-R? Doesn't even come close!

No, the painting is a mixture of Van Gogh and the Amsterdam Bed In, as you mentioned both.

You mean "gracht"? The 'g' and 'ch' both sound as if you're ready to spit, even stronger than the 'ch' in the Scottish 'lochness'. 'a' is as in 'all'. Try that!

Besides, I can ask our students to help me, we always have a group learning Dutch.
I`ve got an idea, I will ask them to write something in Dutch for me and will post it here. Though now that I think about it, it may be risky business, you know!
