It was incredible.  I really love that Joe Brown guy.  I've never heard of him (I guess he's mostly known in the UK), but I loved his version of Here Comes The Sun and That's The Way It Goes.  And if the uke song at the end doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you're made of stone.

Of course, Clapton and Macca ruled.  Actaully, I enjoyed everything.  I thought everybody really seemed to be there for the right reason.  It wasn't about individual egos.  It was about George, as it should be.

Sounds very cool! I would like to see that sometime=)

I saw it last night on PBS! I Loved it! Isn't Dhani awesome? I mean he looks jus tlike george.. Kinda makes me sad.

I tried solidly for 4 hours to get tickets for that concert from very second the went on sale the only phone line was engaged. When I finally did get through, they told me they had all sold out - I was gutted! Hmmmm... 6,000 sold over the phone in less than 4 hours... I don't think so! 

The next day, there were loads of tickets on eBay being sold for phenominal amounts! I was well pissed off to say the least - this was supposed to be a charity event! How did all those touts get so many tickets? Someone somewhere got very rich from this concert, and has a lot to answer for!!!!

Because of that, I never bought the concert for George DVD. I will someday!

Joe Brown was one of the UKs early Rock and Roll singers - he was actually a very accomplished guitarist and George was a big fan! The Beatles used to do a Joe Brown song in their set, with George on vocals, called A Picture Of You.

Later, Joe and George became very good friends - it was a really nice tribute to George that Joe played at George's memorial concert.

Thanks for the info.  I didn't know any of that.  I've never heard of him.  He did a great job, though.

fabulous concert!  fav's for me were the beautifully delivered "beware of darkness" by clapton, and the wonderful evolution of "something"- from a simple ukulele, to a classy blues number.

Macca behaved very well: no limelight-hogging this time. I've read that a lot of people were surprised that he could restrain himself so!

I saw it on TV a few nights ago. Dhani looks so much like George. Didn't there seem to be quite a lot of people playing guitar on stage?

You'll also be interested to know that Joe Brown's daughter is the singer with Jools Holland (Horse to Water).
That's the nicest thing about the concert.It brings generations together.Joe's daughter,George's son and one of Ravi's daughters for the Indian section.

That's right - Sam Brown. She had a hit song here (UK) back in the early 1990's called "Stop" - she's got a very soulful voice and likes to record her vocals in one take apparently.

Apparently he was sick for the last few months beforw the show.


There's a great quote on the second disc by dhani "I remember going to the first practice and suddenly being struck by the fact that i was playing by 8 other guitarists; so I turned around to get some solice, saw the 4 drummers, and nearly fell over with shock."

I thought Anoushka Shankar did a really good job.  My mom has one of her CDs; she's pretty good.
It was really neat to see all those people on stage at once...I can't even imagine what it was like to actually be there in person!  Just watching the DVD, I was mesmerized.

Yeah How many daughters does Ravi Shankar have?  I love Norah Jones' voice too. I though Anoushka was wonderful.
