I found it last week, all the songs on it are Beatles covers and I must say that several of them are really good. Aimee Mann, Sarah McLachlan, the Crowded House guys, Ben Harper and Ben Folds even come close to the real thing I think. Ben Folds's "Golden slumbers" might even, yes, I dare say it, beat the original version...
I haven't seen the movie, and I don't have the soundtrack, but the only song that I've heard it was on that soundtrack was Strawberry Fields Forever... the version was ok, but the original version is the best!

Beat the beatles? YOU ARE NUTTS! I thought the CD is good but not better then the beatles!
Cool down! I was only talking about the cover of "Golden slumbers", not the other songs...
Actually there are two Beatles covers that I've heard so far that I think might be better than the originals: "Golden slumbers" by Ben Folds, and "Across the universe" by Fiona Apple.

I liked the movie and the covers. Don't worry Biscuit, It's not like you said Ben Fold's was better as a band. Now that would be unforgivable.

I've never seen the movie, I never even heard about it until I found the soundtrack cd in the Beatles section of a cd store.
It'a about a mentally retarded guy who's trying to regain custody of his young daughter, Lucy. They are both HUGE Beatles fans, and there are references littered thoughout the film! The movie itself is a real tear-jerker!
I think it's good to get another persective on The Beatles' songs - it opens them up to a whole new audience.
I really enjoyed the movie, but them I am both a huge Beatles fan and Dr Suess fan as well.
I think most songs on the CD are great tributes to the original. I haven't listened to it for ages, but from memory there were only a couple I didn;t like.
I have learnt to tolerate Beatles covers a bit more in my older years.
But what about the songs that the Beatles covered, are they better than the originals? If people who are fans of the original artists like the Beatlkes version better would the be considered nuts?
I love the film and I love the soundtrack. I must say that soem covers are better than others. My favourites could be Twop of us and Lucy, but just beacuse in the film they made me feel so emotional. Sean Penn is great in this film, and the lovely little girl who plays Lucy is just great.
The movie was really great. Usually I don't watch sad movies but i saw it because of all the Beatles refereances and ended up liking it. The cover versions were good I guess but no onec an be better than the Beatles.

one sweet dream, pick up the bags and get in the limousine. soon we'll be away from here. step on the gas and wipe that tear away. one sweet dream came true today...
I think she just said that becasue Here Comes the Sun went along with the whole movie scheme, whereas Come Together did not. Did anyone else thought they tried a bit too hard? I mean there was a Lucy Diamond, a Michelle who played someone named Rita whose last name was Harrison, and a Loretta.
I mean we get the idea.
I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we pass the audition.
I loved the movie and I have the soundtrack. Some of the covers don't beat the originals though. I like the remaakes of Blackbird, Mother Nature's Son, Let It Be, and Two of Us.
Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten.--Lilo and Stitch.
I have to give a shoutout to Howie Day's "Help!" since no one's mentioned it. I thought it was a really really great cover.
The one thing that did bother me, was that some songs (like SSF by Ben Harper) were just too close to the original. If I remember correctly, every note/instrument was practically the same, except it was Ben singing it. Unless you change it in some way, put a new spin on it, it's just going to end up a not-as-good attempt at the original.

P. S. - I did a cover a long time ago of Across the Universe. It's nothing special, I recorded it with a freeware recording program and a cheap mic from my dorm, but if you'd care to hear, it's at http://www.purevolume.com/missy
