You're right, Maria.The songs aren't there to be compared to the originals.They're a tribute to George and should be taken as such.
The concert has also extremely varied styles..rock, pop, ukelele, Monty Python and Indian raga.And yet it all makes sense because of George.

You don't listen to these songs to compare with the orginals. You listen because there's a band up there playing here and now, live.A band helping to contribute to a celebration of a life.

So even if the euros/dollars/pounds/rupees hurt, I urge everyone to get this DVD set. A wonderful concert.

i agree with maria.i bought this dvd set the other day i was move to freaking tear4s.no lie this is the west meets the east.george loved these people and they loved him.their hearts were and still are in the right place.they celebrated their friends life in exchange for the honesty and love he gave them.truly a marvelous man,my friend george.usually i hate clapton but he played second fiddle to everyone nicely,trying to up-stage noone.thanks eric.noone else could have done it that good.i enjoyed the whloe thing.do as maria says get watch it love it.

I wondered this as well and asked a friend about it. What he said made perfect sense,,,,,"What could Dylan have added to the concert"? Its true. Maybe he felt the same way and just stayed in the background for this one. I wouldnt have wanted him to sing any songs (Pettys Taxman was bad enough), and there was already plenty of guitar players. Who knows? Your guess is as good as mine.

Yes, Dylan should have been there.He could probably have sung Taxman better than Petty and done one or two Wilbury songs.(The Wilbury twist would have been nice).

I never said I didn't like Why else would i spen $30 for it. I'm just simply saying that there not beter then the origionals as Jopn said. I love it it'sgreat i've seen both versions twice.

It's 45 euros over here. That's just too much.

I can't remember exactly what i paid but $30 is close.

I hated the Tom Petty covers...what the hell is happening to his voice?

IMHO, when Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers come on stage and start playing "Taxman," there's a downward shift of energy from the ebullience that has built up to that point.  I don't think his renditions of George's songs are that great.  But all in all, the concert is magnificent-one of the best shows EVER.

It was great. Dhani looked so much like George. I loved how they did Handle With Care, it's my favourite performance there. When they got to the bridge in I Need You it was nice too, its one of my favourite songs. I thought Something was a disaster though, why did they do the bridge twice?

I thought the way they decked out the Albert Hall with flowers, tapestries and the big photo of George all in a subdued gold light was terrific. It gave it a real ambience. My favorite moment was Jeff Lynn doing the Inner Light.
Probably the most beautifully photographed concert film since the Band's The Last Waltz. All the colors were sharp and clear.
About the only real criticism I have of it was the obvious no-show of Bob Dylan. But I'm sure he had a good reason for not being able to attend. All in all though, terrific.

I'm not a Dylan fan by any means, but I think he should have been there, not so much for whatever he would have sung, but to pay his respects, so to speak.

Paul's there, right? For some reason I remember hearing somewhere that he wasn't.

I downloaded a video of While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Petty, Elton John, George, Ringo and Clapton. I must admit, that was a great version of it. As good if not better then the cd version. I can't figure out what the video was for though. It mustve been a concert on VH1 or something but Elton John did a very long intro of Ringo and George. It was in the 80's somewhere. whatever, its good, if you download it, its worth it.
