well I grew up listening to them, they were always around I suppose!! Maybe because my uncle was John Barrett, that might have had something to do with it
He worked at Apple & Abbey Road, he archived old tapes & recordings of the Beatles and made a show of unseen footage of them and unheard recordings (recording engineer)
Sorry i`m a bit rusty on names in Beatle history , i dont get to read Beatle books much , i seem to have read everything i need to know, been a fan for 30 odd years , i tend to listen more than i read .
Read the latest Story of Albert and find out the truth of The Battle Of Hastings and where it all went wrong for the English and indoor plumbing . @
Welcome to DMs Nina. John Barrett was the man of the famous cassette dubs, which brought up some unheard material at that time. In these days of anthologies and youtube, it is not that earthshattering anymore, but it was when John Barrett came up with it. Unfortunately, John Barrett passed away somewhere in the 80's if I'm correct.
yes unforunately he did. When he was ill for the 2nd time he started to compile all the old material, I was about 15 at the time and used to visit a lot and remember how excitied he used to be, saying listen to this!! Being of that age I didn't appreciate what I was hearing. I did go to the show that was put on at Abbey Road, he couldn't he was too ill at that stage sadly. Suppose I am one of the lucky people to have been there a few times.
I guess I've been listening since I was born, because my mother likes the beatles, but I was 12 when I really "discovered" them. i was looking through my mothers cd's and found "revolver"... I remenber that I really loved "for no one", that would have been the big "wow-moment"!
Great stories, Nina & Cranberrysauce! Welcome to the forums.
All you've got to do is choose love. That's how I live it now. I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden. I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007
For all I know, Ringo might be a yogi disguised as a drummer! - George Harrison
Well, my "Beatles-story" goes like this: I was born in 1979 and raised mainly with classic music, which I still love (besindes the beatles ). At about 12 or 13 I think I started to discover other music styles and - mybe inspired a little by my mum, who likes some of that stuff as well - got into the 60s and 70s. Of course I had heard about the Beatles and liked what I knew of there songs. So I desided to watch the "Anthology" on TV when it was aired here in germany. Well, that really blow me away ... For some reason I had additionally set the videorecorder right from the first episode - a clever desission ! Some weeks (or only days ?) after the the last part a friend of mine and her younger sister came over and we indeed watched the whole thing on one day ! We only made little interuptions to eat something or to get some fresh air. It was winter and I remember we run through the snow, singing the songs and "replaying" the scenes, where the beatles are skiing , epecially the falling into the snow . So I got every antholgy CD almost the day they were released. Over the years I got more and more albums (meanwhile comleted). I love their music and listen to it a lot, but every 2 or 3 years (or something like that) I get really crazy for one reason or another and start getting totally into it again - doing hardly anything than reading, watching, ,listening .... about/to THE BEATLES !
I've just seen a face, I can't forget the time or place Where we just met.
