they are a great band but somewhat over rated.......

I prefer their pre-dark Side Of the Moon stuff.

Pink Floyd is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, The Wall is creatively, musically & artisticaly their masterpiece.

Sorry, that would be Dark Side of the Moon.  Everything after that was chasing that massive success.

They rule.  Not entirely but they're up there.

I think Wish You Were Here is their best album.

Meddle and Obscured by Clouds are two of my all-time favorite albums.

Both The Wall and Dark Side of the moon are great albums

And Wish You Were Here, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, Meddle, and Animals.

I was talking with a young person (age 19) last week, and he is really into the Sixties. We discussed Floyd for a while, and found we agreed on a couple of things. Here is one oldie-youngster combo view, that might be interesting---

We both agreed that their Seventies stuff was very "trying-hard-to-be-a-significant-band". We both thought Moon and Wall were OK, but nothing classic or brilliant.

We also thought that overall Floyd were a little bit pretentious. Given that, we were amazed that each of us thought their best work was Piper At The Gates!

I think they're a pritty cool band. There in my top 5. The thing is that there diff. They used many things other bands diddn't. And that made them better in my opinoin.

They're my #1 band, I'm more than a little obssed by them. The Piper album (67 - recorded in the neighboor Abbey Road studio of Sgt. Pepper) and their stuff from the 70's is absolutely classic, some of them are masterpices. However, they suffer from the huge sucess of Dark Side and that's become the beginning of the end or them.

Ria brings up a valid point.i think the pre roger waters stuff was better.it is most certainly different.roger waters had a strong influence on david gilmore.he influence was so strong when he suggested they stopped dropping lsd before playing a concert,gilmore complied.
i think waters had a more orchestra type influence on flyod.their pre waters stuff was more cosmic and no as orchestrated.

Waters was who introduced the conceptual size in Floyd's albums. In Syd Barrett days (1966-67) the music was more whimsical, thanks to Syd's heavy LSD use (the others weren't so much in drugs, apart from keyboard player Rick Wright, who develops a cocaine habit in the late 70's). And the music become less free-form, but still experimental and jamming.

And the orchestral influence... well, Waters is to release a full opera this year (not a opera-rock). This means a lot.

They're my tirth or second fave band now.

I can`t recall how often I have heard something similar: "pre-Moon-Floyd are the best" or "they were  s.h.i.t.  after Syd left" and so on. I can`t help it, but to me, Seventies Floyd piss all over "Piper at the Gates of Yawn".

They're a great band, slightly overrated but thats just because theyre so highly rated.  My personal favorite is Dark Side of the Moon, but The Wall, Wish You were Here and Animals are awesome too.  They're sound took me a while to get used to because its so different but its great in its own right.

I like The Wall sometimes. Bit overplayed from where I'm at.
Pre - Meddle I'm not sure. Obscured By Clouds, then it gets harder for me to dig.
Momentary... is a good album too. Always will be Animals. The track Dogs inparticular.

Rowdy, you don't like The Wall?

They were just great architects of sound. Spent a good part of my teenage years with them. Still re-visit from time to time.

Nope...it's just not creative enough musically for me....a lot of it is junk, and the good stuff just sounds a lot like the rock music of the time....it's still got five or six classic songs though, so it's better than anything they did after, but I'm not really a fan of it.

Dark side of the moon for me, Pink Floyd isnt on my top, But its somwhere in there. They are good.

The Wall is mess.

It takes a lot of patience to listen to Pink Floyd. Especially since you can't FF CD's! I love Shine on You Crazy Diamond, but it's freaking 17 minutes long!! And the insane laughter in some of their songs tends to be a bit creepy. Otherwise though they are a great band. Anyone know if Gilmour and Waters ever made up?

I dont think wall is the mess, probably my third favorite album by them how can you not like that album its very good.

The thing about pink floyd is that the real song doesnt start till like 2 or three minuites into it, they always hav introductions.
