I think Keith Moon was probably the most flamboyant rock drummer in the world - his timing was pretty terrrible though!

I absolutely agree, but I didnt want to be the one to say it!

His drumming went beyond what everyone else was doing, or does now for that matter. I love it. He was definitely and innovater of some sort.

Aww! Thanks!! I love them. He was so adorable when he was young.  I can't believe how fast he lost his looks. He looked about 50 by the time he died.  The only other rocker that comes close to wrecking themselves like that has to be the other Keith.  I recently saw an old interview w/ Moonie and Ringo. They were both plastered. I lost a little respect for Ringo watching it. I'm glad he got clean though! Too bad his friend wasn't as successful.

There was nothing wrong with Starr and Moon being happily high on booze.  They were just tipsy and silly, not at all out of control.  I don't know why that would cause you to lose any respect.

They looked like idiots. That's my opinion. Ringo looked like he was about to fall asleep any minute.  I think if that life style were so great, Ringo wouldn't have tried so hard to get off the booze. He was an alcoholic, not a casual drinker having a laugh with a dear friend. And considering how everyone at that time knew Moon was a ticking timebomb, encouraging his excesses isn't exactly admirable. But hey, it's only my opinion!!

**I disagree.  My opinion.

Ringo looked like he was about to fall asleep any minute.  I think if that life style were so great, Ringo wouldn't have tried so hard to get off the booze.

**There were far more reasons he had to get off the sauce than sitting quietly with Moon and spoofing on someones camera.

He was an alcoholic, not a casual drinker having a laugh with a dear friend.
And considering how everyone at that time knew Moon was a ticking timebomb, encouraging his excesses isn't exactly admirable.

**It was a different time.  People weren't aware of how the excesses were going to eventually claim friends and loved ones.  mess happens.

But hey, it's only my opinion!!

Indeed.

Well, I certainly didn't say Ringo got off the booze because he's sitting around with Moon. That's over simplifying it isn't it? I don't get that at all. I know there were other reasons. And knowing that is part of the reason I don't enjoy watching them drunk and acting stupid.  Sure if this wasn't the norm and if Moon didn't end up dead (the following year), maybe it would be more fun to watch. But since I know the outcome, it doesn't thrill me.  Also, you say they didn't know that their excesses could lead to death? This was the late seventies! Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, and Jones were long gone from their life styles! Keith's having seizures due to his alcoholism and he had already run over and killed his assistant while drunk. If that's not a wake up call to get your act together then I don't know what is. So to see them continue to drink and act like it's cool at this point makes me lose a little respect. That's my reaction to it. That's all!

Are you sure that clip was from the late 70's?  I was under the impression it was at the beginning of the decade, Keith doesn't look all that bad there.

Well, if true then your point about not knowing the effects is well taken.

I still see nothing in the clip itself offensive.  To that end I think you're reading all this other stuff into it.  But like you say, it's your opinion.

I am reading all this other stuff into it! It's because I know all of  the other stuff that happened that makes me cringe watching that interview! It's just sad to watch.  They aren't even as funny as they used to be. Just silly. Anyway, it was from 1977 in Malibu. They were filming it to put into the Kids Are Alright documentary. Which Keith didn't even live to see.  I think that Keith doesn't look that bad because of that beard covering half his face. His voice is completly wrecked though. He sounds like a dimented James Mason.

Ah.  OK.  I do the same thing.  Like with John Lennon videos or songs like Beautiful Boy...just knowing when it was released how full of hope for the future he was and how cruelly it was dashed away.

Human nature I suppose.  Thanks for the timeline on the video anyway.
