Okay, I know this is a wierd place to put this question, but oh well!!! (It does have to do with drumming and he IS a drummer!!) Anyway: Who do you think are the five top drummers of all time and WHY! I'm really curious about this as I've never really given it much thought before. I'm just starting to realize how important these guy really are to the music!!
Gene Krupa - an incredible drummer that entertained and caused people to actually want to play. http://www.drummerman.net/
Steve Gadd - could sit down in any setting and come up with just amazing drum parts. Listen to '50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" or Steely Dans "Aja" http://www.intrepidsoftware.com/sgadd/
Jeff Porcaro - fantastic studio drummer that, like Gadd, just nailed parts with truly innovative fills and skill. Master of the shuffle. Check out some Boz Skaggs, Toto, and a little known fact,,,,,most of Pink Floyds 'The Wall". Never recieved credit for the Floyd album, but trust me, he played on it. http://www.povlab.org/jeff.porcaro/jporcaro.php
Hal Blaine - maybe the most recorded drummer ever. Two sayings come to mind - the breakdown of music in the 60's went something like this, Hal Played on 55%, Gary Chester played on 35%, and Ringo played on the other 10% that you heard on the radio. Another was that a person got upset that he found out his top 5 favorite drummers were Hal Blaine. http://www.halblaine.com/
Those 5 should do, but we could get ignorant and dive deep into the jazz sceen, but i'm too tired right now.
You know I just figured out why posting a question here can be a problem. Nobody will know what the question is when it gets to the next page! Duh. Anyway, I don't feel like starting a new thread so here's the question again: Who do you think are the top 5 drummers of all time and WHY?? Some of the answers have been very interesting!
Slim Jim Phantom? From the Stray Cats? Interesting and great choice. I've always liked him and just recently picked up an issue of DRUM! magazine and he was in an ad for 'Peace' drums I believe. Cool!
yeah buddy he and lee rocker the other stray cat played in carl perkin rockabilly sessions with george, ringo, eric, marty stewart roseanne cash, carls son, carl and many others.no brian setzer tho..........
Okay, we talked about this about a year ago here somewhere, but now it's coming true. Mike Myers and Roger Daltrey are producing a movie about Keith Moon and MYERS is playing Moon. Isn't he a bit old to be playing Moon? Not to mention several other things that are SO wrong with that casting. I still stand firm on my first choice. Jason Schwartzman. Good actor, young, looks like Moon, and is a DRUMMER! Oh well, I just hope they don't portray him as a drunken fool. I mean, there was more to him. Really.
The lovely Keith Moon Jason Schwartzman. Not a bad imitation of the original
you have quite an eye.......they better not show him only as a drunk...pete will be pissed...moonie was a fun guy and cared....he always had time for friends and came to ringos aid.....
NOOOOOOOOOOO Austin Powers star Mike Myers is to play one of his heroes, the late Keith Moon in a film about The Who drummer's life. | The band's lead singer Roger Daltrey is producing.....blah blah blah.
Now everytime I search for Keith Moon pics, all these annoying pics of Myers comes up. Sickening.
I understand you ... it's as if Jim Carrey played John because John was excentric sometimes. An insult!
If they're trying to make a Keith's life based comedy, is not the best choice ... and if they're trying to be true to the real story of his life, Myke's not the best choice ... ... there's a bad choice somewhere, that's for sure.
