No, I'm afraid I never did. The only time I saw the band was after his passing. But the concert footage available is awe inspiring. As I mentioned in another post, he was unique in that he articulated so much more than simply keeping a beat. His work was musical, not merely metronomic. Add in a stunningly quirky character and it's the stuff of Godhood. He's the best in my book.

Keith singing. The people commenting think it sounds like a Lennon throw away. I think it sounds more Paulish! His voice isn't bad at all! I actually like the song!
Moon accepting an award on behalf of the Beatles. I love the line he reads on behalf of the Beatles: "We finally made it Keith." LOL. Man I wish I was around back then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What are they winning for by the way?
I'm reposting this cuz I love it. It really does remind me of some Wings song or something. Again, I don't get the Lennon comparisions it was getting at all!
Ringo Starr Says Keith Moon Couldn't Keep Good Time
By: Howie Edelson Ringo Starr shed some light on his friendship with the Who's late drummer Keith Moon, who was among Starr's closet friends outside of the Beatles. Starr was asked by Mojo magazine whether he felt any competition with Moon, who was rated one of the world's greatest drummers. Starr replied by saying, "No. I didn't feel competitive with any drummer on the planet. Keith and I were friends. He is 'Uncle Keith'to my children. With Keith on his solo album in the '70s, if we wanted to get a track finished we'd send him out of the room. Sometimes he could just get in your way! I always say his timing was way off -- he had no real sense of timing. That's how Keith played." Starr's son, Zak Starkey, has been the official drummer of the Who since 1996. In 1977, Moon gave Starkey his first adult set of drums, which Moon had used on the Who's final North American tour the year before. Mike Myers will reportedly portray Moon is the upcoming Who-sanctioned Moon biopic called See Me Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked For Your Pleasure. Filming begins in early 2008. Ringo Starr recently released Photograph: The Very Best Of Ringo Starr, which spans his entire solo career, and includes such Starr hits as "Photograph," "It Don't Come Easy," "You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful And You're Mine)," "I'm The Greatest," "Only You (And You Alone)," and "Back Off Boogaloo." Yeah, he wasn't know for keeping time though he was known for being innovative, fast, and powerful. Not to mention damn entertaining to watch. The guy could twirl his drumsticks, throw them up in the air and catch them without missing a beat. Well, on a good night anyway. He's just unique.
More on his time keeping from some Ginger Baker article: Moon's greatest limitation lay in time keeping – he was an excellent timekeeper, but erratic. It was probably a result of life-style combined with a lack of training. These lapses were a source of great tension in the band, with Townshend knocking him out with a flying guitar on one occasion. He also had major problems with uneven times e’g 5/4, 7/8. However he was one of the first drummers to play to primitive sequence tracks on "Who’s Next" – now the standard recording approach.
I guess it annoyed Pete too. What are primitive sequence tracks? I have no idea.
Love Ringo, but never saw him do anything even close to this. Not that he had to though. Not with the other three around. I mean come on!! Look at him! He's incredible!!!!!
Keith is one of my idols. If you can't appreciate his sense of humor and personality, you probably can't appreciate his drumming.. That's what Keith was, just a huge personality. I've always been fascinated with his life, but it's rather depressing.. I'll always have a huge soft spot for Moonie.
