Ok, so I just read that Roger Daltrey has been trying to get a movie made about Keith Moon for years. He is said to want Mike Myers as Keith. NO WAY! I don't see it. But if this happens, a good choice would be Jason Schwartzman from Rushmore. Not only does he look like the guy, but he's an actual drummer. I don't know how many Who fans are on this board, but I for one would love a Keith Moon movie. The guy was one of a kind. Awesome drummer and not bad to look at either. Well in the early days that is. I wonder if they would put in the scene where he runs over his personal assistant! Anyway, if you want to see the resemblence of Jason and Keith, heres a link with pictures. http://p210.ezboard.com/fyankeeracers33503frm8.showMessage?topicID=183.topic |

I'm surprised she stuck with him as long as she did! Three broken noses! Now that's love! Or studpidity. He should have been on prozac. |

I personally like the bottle that was stuck in the wall (was thrown during a fight). They left it there for decor. |

I have heard Roger Daltrey is considering Mike Myers to play the late, great Keith Moon possibly during his later years in this bio pic which is crazy. |

I personally think Myers would do a good job. What he lacks in the drumming chops department, he more than makes up for it in his acting skills. The movie would have more mass appeal with a big name actor anyways. Whoever gets the part will have to have a ton of training behind the kit anyways. |

Animal! That's funny. I bet he was based on Keith! Mike Myers? Eww. I like him, but not as Keith Moon. He's too old anyway. He's already lived longer than Keith. Although, Keith looked pretty old towards the end. I still like Jason Schwartzman for young Keith. I love the bottle in the wall story. They put a frame around it! I think they were both wacked. |

I could dig up a link, but i'm lazy right now. The short of it is that Keith and Kim had a fight and one of them (cant remember which) threw a bottle at the other one and missed. The bottle smashed into the wall and stuck there. They left it there as a little reminder. I'll look up the story a little later. |

He posed for a picture with the framed bottle. Some group put it on the cover or back cover of their album. Can't remember who, but it was recent. Does anyone here agree with the statement that he was the best rock drummer ever? I've read that a lot of musicians feel that he was. I couldn't really say, but I did like to watch him play. He was very animated to say the least! |

I wouldn't say the best rock drummer ever, but certainly in the top 3 along with Bonham and an unnamed player yet to be determined. |

He did some amazing things, but I cant really say he was the best. I cant say anybody was really the best (well, maybe Buddy Rich). Different strokes for different folks. |

I think Keith Moon was probably the most flamboyant rock drummer in the world - his timing was pretty terrrible though! |

His drumming went beyond what everyone else was doing, or does now for that matter. I love it. He was definitely and innovater of some sort. |

Hi Maccalvr! Here are a few pics of the great man I uploaded for you - hope you like them
Aww! Thanks!! I love them. He was so adorable when he was young. I can't believe how fast he lost his looks. He looked about 50 by the time he died. The only other rocker that comes close to wrecking themselves like that has to be the other Keith. I recently saw an old interview w/ Moonie and Ringo. They were both plastered. I lost a little respect for Ringo watching it. I'm glad he got clean though! Too bad his friend wasn't as successful. |

There was nothing wrong with Starr and Moon being happily high on booze. They were just tipsy and silly, not at all out of control. I don't know why that would cause you to lose any respect. |

They looked like idiots. That's my opinion. Ringo looked like he was about to fall asleep any minute. I think if that life style were so great, Ringo wouldn't have tried so hard to get off the booze. He was an alcoholic, not a casual drinker having a laugh with a dear friend. And considering how everyone at that time knew Moon was a ticking timebomb, encouraging his excesses isn't exactly admirable. But hey, it's only my opinion!! |

**I disagree. My opinion.
Ringo looked like he was about to fall asleep any minute. I think if that life style were so great, Ringo wouldn't have tried so hard to get off the booze.
**There were far more reasons he had to get off the sauce than sitting quietly with Moon and spoofing on someones camera.
He was an alcoholic, not a casual drinker having a laugh with a dear friend. And considering how everyone at that time knew Moon was a ticking timebomb, encouraging his excesses isn't exactly admirable.
**It was a different time. People weren't aware of how the excesses were going to eventually claim friends and loved ones. mess happens.
But hey, it's only my opinion!!
Indeed. |

Well, I certainly didn't say Ringo got off the booze because he's sitting around with Moon. That's over simplifying it isn't it? I don't get that at all. I know there were other reasons. And knowing that is part of the reason I don't enjoy watching them drunk and acting stupid. Sure if this wasn't the norm and if Moon didn't end up dead (the following year), maybe it would be more fun to watch. But since I know the outcome, it doesn't thrill me. Also, you say they didn't know that their excesses could lead to death? This was the late seventies! Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, and Jones were long gone from their life styles! Keith's having seizures due to his alcoholism and he had already run over and killed his assistant while drunk. If that's not a wake up call to get your act together then I don't know what is. So to see them continue to drink and act like it's cool at this point makes me lose a little respect. That's my reaction to it. That's all! |

Are you sure that clip was from the late 70's? I was under the impression it was at the beginning of the decade, Keith doesn't look all that bad there.
Well, if true then your point about not knowing the effects is well taken.
I still see nothing in the clip itself offensive. To that end I think you're reading all this other stuff into it. But like you say, it's your opinion. |

I am reading all this other stuff into it! It's because I know all of the other stuff that happened that makes me cringe watching that interview! It's just sad to watch. They aren't even as funny as they used to be. Just silly. Anyway, it was from 1977 in Malibu. They were filming it to put into the Kids Are Alright documentary. Which Keith didn't even live to see. I think that Keith doesn't look that bad because of that beard covering half his face. His voice is completly wrecked though. He sounds like a dimented James Mason. |

Ah. OK. I do the same thing. Like with John Lennon videos or songs like Beautiful Boy...just knowing when it was released how full of hope for the future he was and how cruelly it was dashed away. Human nature I suppose. Thanks for the timeline on the video anyway. |

Yup, many of Lennon's later songs are way hard to listen to and make me not only sad but angry. Going back to the first part of this thread, I hope they do make a movie about Moon, but I'm still waiting for a good movie about the Beatles! I mean a real movie, not that garbage they've put out so far. I don't know, I'm sure a lot of people don't like those kind of movies, but I'm a sucker for them. I HATED the one about the Doors though. Keep Oliver Stone away from anything Beatles or Keith related! |

Everything! For me anyway. They played him like just a drunken fool and nothing more. There was no real story and WHAT was that whole indian thing? When I see a biograpy type movie, I want it to be as real as possible. I feel like that movie was mostly fiction. And I couldn't stand Val Kilmer as Morrison. No way does he come close to being as gorgeous as Jim. I would have liked Jason Patrick. He was a dead ringer for the guy. Oh, and Meg Ryan as Pamela???? I just don't see it. But oh well! I'm glad someone enjoyed it! |

Well, I guess we disagree. First off, Val Kilmer looked more like Jim Morrison than Jim did. As for Meg Ryan,,,,shes an 'A' list actress that I thought did a good job. The indian stuff i'm not real sure of and i've never really read any biography or memoirs about Jim, but the drinking and drug taking seems to fit his persona. I mean, dying at 28 years of age isnt normal, and enough people that hung around him (Grace Slick and Jefferson Airplane, the Doors, etc,,,) pretty much stated that the guy was wasted most of the time. Oh well, I really liked it and most of my friends and people i've talked to seemed to also enjoy it. To each their own. Its all good. |

Yup, we disagree. But like you say, to each his own! I think their might have been slighty more to Jim than just being an alcoholic even if he did die at 27. Even the guys in his own band denounced the movie after it came out saying a lot was made up. And his ex-girlfriend said it was just one giant music video with no substance and not accurate. But that's besides the point. I just didnt enjoy it and other people did. Like any other movie I guess. |

I was an extra in the Doors movie (and no you can't see me, my best stuff ended up on the cutting room floor). When he swings on a rope onto the stage then jumps into the crowd in a crucifixion pose. Eight hours, 500 people, 5 cameras and a LOT of money and retakes for that 32 second bit. No WONDER movies cost millions to make!
Val Kilmer was spooky, he looked so much like Morrison. He did an exceptional job of capturing both the look and the kind of sly wicked way of the man.
However Stone DID make it into a sleazy sort of anti-drug movie and between the script and the way Morrison was portrayed (as maccalvr says, wasted all the time) WAS awful.
The Indian thing is something Jim did claim happened to him when he was young and always felt a connection to that culture ever since. It was mixed with the peyote/psychedelic sort of lifestyle he lived (tho the Indians used it for worshipping purposes, not recreation).
Jim WAS a guy who liked to punk people, and that is a real enough persona in the movie. Stone had him be a wasted buffoon too often tho, which was not accurate. He was a sensitive artist who had a penchant for self-destruction unfortunately. But on the way he produced some brilliant stuff.
But on the whole the movie is depressing and hard to watch because of the way it was written and directed, i.e. badly.
The actors were good, tho Meg Ryan did seem like a kind of severe miscasting.

Interesting. I like Val Kilmer as an actor now, but at the time I hated him. So I guess that had something to do with me not liking the film. Although I really have a hard time watching it because it's so bad. I can't seem to get through it. I don't see Val's resemblence to Jim. Maybe it's because I was obsessed w/ Morrison for most of my teenage years, had his face plastered all over my walls, bought every book and video about him and watched them constantly, so I know every nook and cranny on that face! Val just didn't cut it for me. I know they made him up really well, but I'm too picky to accept it I guess! Again, Jason Patric would have been perfect. Val did get the voice down though! Very convincing. |
