I'm going to revise my vote! I still think that I Saw Her Standing There walks away with it. The thing with the Song Survivor Game has been that I've started to listen to things with fresh ears, and having voted for Anna (Go To Him) on memory alone, I gave it good listen, and was pleasantly surpised. So now I'm going for 'Boys'.

Beats me why some people post on here, and don't go anywhere near the Song Survivor game, which is the same thing, only better!

We need to spread more 20's around. *gives you a handful of counterfeit bills*

Ha! It is perplexing though, the amount of folks who vote on these things, but don't come over to the big one! I think it suffers from being in games. Some people just won't go in there. It should never have gone in there, as it's not really a game at all. I'm actually considering puting the final in the songs forum.

I strongly agree with that! It's really all about appreciating the songs. The only "game" aspect to it is that we eventually pick a "winner", but that's only an excuse to listen to all these songs!

Ah Paul, come on. You've been dragging the SSG all over the place!

Very true, but I have to. The one time I did absolutely nothing to promote it, we only had 13 votes. Against an average of 23 that's terrible. I think some people vote just to shut me up, which is fine by me. The reason I wouldn't do anything like it again is that there are too many long term regulars who don't vote, and too many people who only come on the forum to vote. So basically it's a waste of time as, on the whole it's not really that representative of DM's.

To be honest, I've just never understood the point of eliminating songs from albums until one's left (assuming it's that kind of game you're talking about). It's entirely subjective, and popularity (as we see from the Top Ten during almost any era) has nothing to do with actual musical merit. Removing particular selections from the context of a whole album seems to be besides the point; I always wonder if people don't have more creative things to do. But I wonder this in more of a taking-the-piss sort of way than anything harsh, y'know.

It's not meant to be a nasty comment or anything; I don't have some snotty disrespect or whatever. You asked, so there's my 2K. Hey, however you have fun, solid. I think it's just a lack of comprehension on my part about the fun or the point or what have me.

Here's my book. It's funny! I promise.

"The object of this is to find the song that can survive the challenge of all others, and become DM's favourite Beatles song."

Same thing.

It isn't. You mentioned eliminating songs from albums until one is left. That's not what this is. Each album has had a vote, with the 3 top songs going through from each. The songs were then seeded on the percentage of votes they received, and put into 4 groups for Phase II. Leading up to next weeks final. It's actually taken nearly 6 months to do.

But the principle's the same, isn't it? Even if it takes ten years, eliminating all but three songs from every album, and then having people vote to see which one is the biggest favorite, removing all context and narrowing an entire catalogue down to a single song... but hey, I'm not putting it down. As I said, I just don't understand the point. That's different from saying "that's stupid" or whatever, because I'd never insult anyone that way; if people have fun, awesome. But you've often asked why some don't participate, so I was just offering a perspective.

No worries Chris. I just wonder why people do the 'best song', 'worst song' which has no end result, that's all.
