What's your opinion of John's sons? Do you like their music, them, etc. I'm curious and I also wanted to start a new topic because there seems to be an influx of album-rating threads, which are OK but I hate rating songs on albums I love.
So....what do you think of them?
My opinion: Sean and Julian are very talented. I prefer Sean's music and consider him very handsome. Julian's OK as well.

I think Julian is the most talented of John's sons with Valotte being his only great album & the title track itself his only masterpiece as an artist while suffering the curse of just being a novelty act that happens to all offspring of rock legends from Dweezil Zappa, Lisa Marie Presley, Kelly Osbourne & his step brother Sean.
I want you, I want you so bad babe. I want you, I want you so bad. It's driving me mad, it's driving me mad.
Ummm...you seriously haven't heard "Photograph Smile" or even "Help Yourself" by Julian, then, if you think he only had one good album and it was the first one. He is talented, in my opinion.
And Sean isn't a "novelty" act because he never had a hit song to begin with- which is good for him, because I find his music more creative and interesting than Julian's. Plus Sean has a wide musical range and experiments with different styles.
I remember seeing a video for Sean Lennon a long time ago. I don't even remember what the song was though. The only other time I heard him singing was on this dvd I got where people were singing John's songs. He was a good singer.
Julian is pretty good. He sounds and looks an awful lot like his father.
Sean isn't Julian's step brother by the way he's his real brother. I haven't heard anything Sean does but I want to. I didn't know he could sing. I thought he might have taken after his mother. Good thing John's gene's broke through. Does he sound like his dad?

Julian and Sean have the same father, different mothers. That means they are step-brothers. If you want to argue that further, can we arrange to have a $10,000 bet - or $20,000, whatever you like?!
Just for the record, my take on Julian and Sean is this: Julian has quite a lot of talent, and his work is very pleasant. Julian has a "diluter" dose of his father's talent. However, Sean's dose is almost pure water; tough luck Sean!
No. Julian and Sean are HALF brothers. Step brothers are those who do not have the same mother or father, but may be the child of a step-parent. I have a half-brother so I know.
Like I said, Julian is talented. However, I'll bet no one here had the fortune of seeing Sean live to know really how extremely talented he is, so most are assuming only on the basis of what they know- and considering, of the two, that Julian had the more mainstream success and has a voice eerily similar to John's. But Sean, whose voice is not as similar to John's as Julian's, has taken what he has (and I consider it a lot) and decided to create his own music, his own sound, and not try and be like his father.
And I can't say the same for Julian, whose first album had tracks on it that sounded very similar to John's later material. I mean, they were good songs...but where is the originality? Sean may be different, but he is aware of the fact that by simply copying his father he won't ever pave his own thing. So he doesn't, and if you hear his music (which is beautiful) you realize that he's a smart kid, very talented, and very creative.
If he did inherit something of Yoko, why is that so bad? Sure she is a sucky singer and all, but she's also-lest we forget- crazily unique and a total individual in the things she does. Of course, this could be a message board polluted with Yoko haters, so I'll be the odd person and say I consider her a very compelling artist.
They are indeed half-brothers of each other. Julian is Yoko's step-son, Sean is Cynthia's step-son; in that sense they are step-brothers. Kyoko is John's step-daughter; she is half-sister to Sean; Sean and Kyoko are a step-brother/sister pair, or a half-brother/sister pair depending on your angle.
But I admit it was "half-brother" I was thinking of! Glad I didn't take a bet with you, Runforyourlife!!
Don't worry about it Maria. I make mistakes every day, as does anyone else, so it is no problemo.
But really...I want to know if anyone has heard Sean and Julian's music and can comment on some songs. I want some concrete material to work with here, because I hate arguing to a point that no one is even making. I think they are both interesting to talk about and I would love to share a conversation with anyone about his two sons. Not just about whose has more success and such, but what about their music? Ayone like a particular song?
A half brother is a real brother though right. I mean they are related. I have two 'half' brothers and one 'whole' brother, but to me there's no difference. I look more like one of my halfs than I do my whole. Related is related. I would never like being refered to as a half anything anyway.

I was talking about his singing. And that would not be such a great thing to inherit from his mother. That's not Yoko hating, it's reality. I don't hate her at all. I'm indifferent if anything. I really don't know enough about her to say either way.
Maccalvr...I was not directing my post just at you, but the general concensus. Just in case, for example (since it is not uncommon) people here hate Yoko and wish to enunciate the fact that she has no talent. I disagree and think she has talent, but its not accessible talent, the talent that most people would normally warm to.
Anyhow, Sean dod NOT inherit Yoko's voice. If anything, he sounds a hell of a lot more like John, but his voice is more soft, higher-pitched, and sweet. Its actually a lovely voice. I'm a big fan of it.
Half-brothers are real brothers, and I don't think either Julian or Sean refer to each other as "My half-brother" but actually say "my brother" because they think of each other as such, just like John's two sisters Julian and Jacqui don't ever call him their half-brother. They call him "my brother John."
Really...even if you have a step-brother and you feel that brotherly love and closeness, you may refer to him as brother and nothing is wrong with that.
OK, so who has heard Sean's album "Into the Sun?" I'd like to talk about the songs on there with anyone who cares...they are so beautiful.
I found a pic of Sean posted at another message board and I thought I would share it:
Well, if you all want to talk about Julian's music instead I don't mind. I just feel like talking about their music because no one ever really does and I thought it would be interesting.
