So far, The Beatles have fixed three areas of their catalogue. First, there was the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, which helped give the fans a Beatles album rather than a few songs with orchestral music attached to the end. The next problem in the band's catalogue was the lack of a decent hits release as the red and blue albums could have more songs and such.....in comes a full length CD, 1. And then of course, the band fixed in my opinion their weakest album, Let It Be, with LIB...Naked. So, of these three releases, which was the most substantial improvement on a previous release?

For me, the biggest improvement was undoubledly the new version of Let It Be. The improved sound quality and stronger sounding mixes made it feel like a Beatles album rather than the rough patchwork full of "Dig Its" and "Maggies" that we had earlier. Plus, we were finally rid of that awful orchestral score on "The Long and Winding Road".

YS.  It was 'new' in its approach to the mixes, much clearer (tho there were some very bad mixing errors).

1 sounded like crap.

LIBN was impressive for the improved sound, yes, but there again too many missing elements.  And LAWR never suffered from Spector's production...it was the kind of song that just begged for the bathos approach.

I don't know, I've always had this slight dislike of Let it Be, which I'm trying to correct by listening to ...Naked - it did help a bit, I think. I now find I'm able to tolerate The long and winding road, and the songs sounds crisper to my ears. Not to mention I think the design for Naked is much better (I'm a Media student, so these things influence me) So all in all, it's an improvement

I haven't noticed any 'mixing errors', could you ellaborate on that a bit?

I've noticed a few mixing 'fixes' though, for example:-
Lucy In The Sky - similar phasing effects, and thus is closer to the mono mix
Yellow Submarine - "life of ease" line IS repeated by John, as per mono mix
Eleanor Rigby - Paul's vocal is mixed much better, ie the ADT used on the Paul's vocal during the chorus, is faded before the verse and so doesn't overlap.

Hmm. Yellow Submarine was really well-done. Except for I miss John's little "...igh,ah,igh..." mess-up in Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. And Baby, You're a Rich Man is fantastic there, too. It sounds full and...right.

And the Long and Winding Road from Let it Be...Naked is a REEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLY great improvement. Some of the weird things Paul does when he's singing...it actually makes sense without that grotty orchestra packed in. Not that i'm against orchestras, it just didn't fit in very well with -that- song.

Tough one....

1 was poorly done, which I think we all agree on.

Let It Be (Naked) featured the Long & Winding Road as its composer intended, so that was a big plus, however, I liked the live feel of the orginal album, which the new version loses.  On the strength of the correction of the torture that Spector put us through, I voted for Let It Be - Naked.

Here's another clue for you all; the Walrus was Paul...
