I dont think abbey road is overrated, but peppers is, but nonetheless a terrific album.  I consider MMT a proper album because i wasnt around when the singles were released so the current form seems to make sense to me.

Its the aura that surrounds Peppers.
Its been wrapped up by critics as an easy way to summarise the Sixties, when infact such a decade is alot more complex than 'an album that goes nowhere'.
After hearing Lennon's critique on Peppers.. clawing at the abstract 'avante garde' underground feel of the Album..I totaly agree.
This does not take away from the individuality of each song, but the stringing together and collective state of the Album seems weaker to me.

The Album art is great, and the design features are amazing, but other albums of the time, match up to its 'psychedelic charm'

I always see it as Mccartney's ego trip, which isnt bad..(Im a huge Mccartney fan!) but, this tends to take away from the group activity.
Although historians always note the cracks appeared in 68*, I always feel it was as early as 67..and the start of the 'summer of Love'...that directions began to sway.

It's true that critics always seems use Pepper's as a way to sum up the sixties, which is not really correct. Abbey Road is probably their most cohesive album, but yet I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It only has a couple of songs on it that I really like.
Sgt Pepper's was very ground-breaking for its time and now people seem to be picking it apart. There's nothing wrong with examining albums of the past, but I feel Sgt. Pepper's is now being called "over-rated" simply because people today, with all our new music, just don't understand that it really was (one of) the best albums made by 1967. I wasn't around when it first came out, but it is my favorite album and I feel that after decades of being put on a pedestal, Pepper's is now being treated like nothing, when in fact it is the most important album the Beatles made.

But that's just my opinion.

I respect your opinion, and agree with you about the groundbreaking way it was created.
Abbey Road always gets the vote because it was the last official Album..I always say it, because I think its true..that it has an over-sickly feel..a white-wash of charm which goes against some of its darker material. Most of Mccartneys work has the Disney-feel, which is great when Im in the mood..but hasnt got the edge of 'click repeat'
Because of the fake happy ending of the loveable Mop Tops..I feel I dont want to be fooled..and thus always note Abbey Road as not being natural.

Now..Rubber Soul...

Hmm, I don't think Revolver is one of my favourites. Rubber Soul, Abbey Road and White album are probably mine
