I've never understood the difference between Mono and Stereo anything. Could somebody explain to me what the difference is and why you can hear some things on one and not the other?

They mixes were different and when they mixed for Stereo, they left some things in, some things out. The US mixes sucked for the most part until Sgt Pepper because mainly what they did was put more bass in one channel and more treble in the other to simulate stereo. Sgt. Pepper was the first album where everything coincided per release, before then, every UK album was made into two US releases. There stuff has been mixed and remixed so many times and vary depending on which release you have, you could spend a fortune tracking down each and every one. F'rinstance, the German release of Magical Mystery Tour was the ONLY release of that package anywhere, that was in true stereo. I have an interesting book called 'Every Little Thing' that has a pretty good breakdown of what mix of what song in which country, etc. Its mind boggling. Some like the Mono releases because they supposedly have a 'brighter' quality to them. I always preferred Stereo, though I do have to say that its interesting to have both just for comparison sake.

It's called FAKE STEREO..Capitol US never had the UK master tapes until Sgt. Pepper.

Interesting . But hmm... if you buy a Beatles CD nowadays, granted that their are no American bastards to buy, is it in Mono or Stereo? I'm thinking Stereo, because I heard they chalked up the last harmonica part in the Stereo release of Please Please Me the song on that same album, and when I listened to it, the beginning of the last harmonica intro seemed to be editted on poorly.

Man, that's a toughie. Up until November when the US Capitol releases came out in both Mono and Stereo, the first 4 CDs (that would be of their first 4 British releases) were all MONO. 'Help' and ever after were in Stereo. These facts were kept a secret so no one could really tell, so I can see why you would be confused. I wonder if John could play harmonica and sing at the same time? We all now know that Paul can't play bass and sing at the same time. Again, a toughie.

Once again, another bait, and more putting words in my mouth. I've already sent one report to Dmitry -- I don't need to send another.
