Well for one thing The beatles and George MArtin believed that fans shouldn't have to pay for a song "twice", the UK EMI Parlophone releases did not generally include the singles and the US Capitol releases did.

(Cynically, you could say they were hoping to make more sales too that way)

There are other reasons which I am not sure of but know someone will be able to help with.

Apparently the Beatles fought to have the albums issued the same but this din;t happen until Revolver.

i know this was the same with the Rolling Stones as well, their US releases contained singles wheras the UK ones didn;t.

I think Help! also was issued the same in the U.S., but not sure.

Well... If they couldn't have the actual song This Boy on the album, even though it was on the movie, they should have put it on the B-Side of A Hard Day's Night.

The problem with that is This Boy had already appeared as a B-side a few months earlier (I Want To Hold Your Hand) and most Beatle fans would probably already have a copy of that.
