I debating weather or not I should by this movie "The Birth Of The Beatles" off of Ebay  and I wondered if anyone here has seen this movie and if it is worth buying a copy to watch since I've never seen it?

Thanks,

Mr. Kite

We don't like their sound and guitar music is on the way out Mr. Epstein.

I would recomend it. There are a few inaccuracies though - but it's quite an enjoyable movie! PLUS Rain (Ssarah's favourite Beatle tribute band) do the soundtrack... and very well too!

Pete Best is one of the technical consultants on the film.

I thought it was a terrible film. The bitter taste of it still sits in my mouth since 1979.

What was so bad about it?

Inaccuracies, for one major thing. George didn't sing 'Don't Bother Me' in Hamburg; he hadn't even written it yet. The Beatles didn't record 'Long Tall Sally' as part of their audition. Other than that, it's been a long time and I can't recall everything; I haven't seen the movie since 1979. But I remember it being incorrect in quite a few ways.

I just enjoy seeing The Beatles' story dramatised - no matter how dreadful it is I always manage to find something interesting about it! And THIS was no exception - true, there are a lot of historical inaccurarcies, but once you put that behind you it's quite an enjoyable little film... in my opinion of course!!

Did any othe the guys playing them look anything like them? That's my biggest problem with these movies! I watch and think: what they hell were they thinking when they hired this guy he looks nothing like Paul/John etc.  Other than that I love watching these train wrecks. No ones gotten it right yet.

The movies ok and watchable, the actors sort of resemble The Beatles but thats it, no dead on look-a- likes. I might also mention there are two diffrent versions of this film, a European version w/ a fat nude model in a art school scene and a bit stronger languge. Then theres the watered down USA version that is shorter and had the language dubbed over and no fat nude model scene. The story is fairly accurate though not all the way. The instruments were often the wrong model or wrong instrument altogether. Oh and by the way, PC 31 I think your thinking of the movie "Backbeat". Nobody from "Soul Asylum" was in "The birth of The Beatles"

The problem is, you're never going to find people who look exactly like them who also happen to be actors!

I've only ever seen the European version with fat nude model and naked Astrid scene... or did I only imagine that bit?!!!

You did see the naked Astrid and a fat nude model, as these were both scenes in the European version of the film. You guys in the UK get such neat stuff on tv, we never got the to see the more risque' version of this film. The only reason I know of the different version is beacause i have a VHS tape of the European version. All in all not that bad of a film though. Speaking of actors not looking like the person their playing, how about the VH1 fiasco "Two of us" the actor  that played Lennon looked more like a crack addict, but he played the part failry well. The point I'm Making is in these movies your never going to get Dead on look a likes. You are going have look at the acting more than the physical similarities. Then the films are not so disappointing.

I like the part of the movie when 'Brian' says to 'John' that John's the mind, Paul's the heart, George is the spirit and Ringo's the flesh and blood.
I thought that was a really good way to put how the Beatles were and how it could never be with any others, it had to be those 4.

I read or heard an interview with John somewhere and he called it "A Cellar Full Of Boys"
