"having read the book"....... has everyone/anyone read this book? i think it was written in 1968 or so, but it is, in my opinion, one of the best books about their lives. maybe because it was written when they were still together...just curious what others thought of it....you really get an idea of how hard they worked for what they got....a lot of people think they showed up at Ed Sullivan's back door one day and were instantly famous...
It still is the only *authorized* biography of the group (beyond Anthology of course).
It is interesting....read it then, read it a year or so ago as there have been one or two updates, with a whole new preafce chapter on catching up since 1968. Not 100% but damned little is nowadays. Good basic beatle book.

I have it and started reading it a long time ago... never got through it... but now that you mention it, I might just start reading it again.

I have the second revised edition (soft cover). In the 'Introduction to the 1985 paperback' section there is a photograph of a young thin Freddie Lennon and he looks EXACTLY like John. I remember when I first saw it I was shocked because up until then the only photos I saw of John's father were when he was missing teeth, older and overweight.
Does anyone know anything about the other son Fred had?

Well, I thought Davies and Mccartney were pretty close. Paul and Linda crashing at Davies Apartment abroad around 68/69 (I think) ..I got the impression Davies liked Paul as a mate and admired John for what everyone admires John for...being John

It was Shout author Philip Norman who I was thinking of! It was said of him that he really didn't like Paul? Anybody else ever hear that?
I don't know why I get Shout and the Davies book mixed up all the time. I guess because one is authorized and the other is UNauthorized. Forgive me, I'm old and forgetful.
