The Yellow Submarine movie, that freak... The Beatles were CHARACTERS in that movie, however they did NOT act or play their parts in the movie. So he is wrong, screw him. Anyway, the movie was still good anyway. And so what if the Beatles weren't the best actors in the world! They made millions doing it and I am sure, had a great time. That is all that matters. And besides, I ENJOYED THEM TOO!!

Oh please.

I'm a pretty big Mayer fan. He is quite blunt, and says some things sometimes that make you go "hmmm he shouldn't have said that" but I don't even think this qualifies. I don't even think the Beatles themselves would be bothered by that, if it's even about them or not. I'm not sure if John Mayer is a Beatles fan, but I can tell you what he isn't:

"a wannabe Bob Dylan".... why, because he sometimes plays an acoustic guitar?!? I don't get it. He is nothing like Bob Dylan, and he certainly doesn't try to be.

I'll admit there are some general similarities between DM and JM (especially when you're only looking at his radio-hits) but those similarities are inadvertent. John Mayer's quite talented, and he isn't simply mimicking anyone - his music is his own.

... even if it's not everyone's cup o' tea.

Yeah, sure, that could be right. I wrote my response before reading what everyone else wrote. I didn't think it mattered, but I guess it does. Oh well... My bad... bahh

I love Dylan, but he has to be the worst singer-songwriter actor of all time.  James Taylor in "Blacktop Whatever" was pretty horrible too.  And poor Paul Simon in "One Trick Pony."  Or Neil Diamond in "The Jazz Singer" (with Olivier, no less--the movie was a hit, but they still wouldn't let Neil go near a movie set after that one).  Robbie Robertson was interesting in "Carny", but Levon Helm was really good in "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "The Right Stuff."  I thought Lennon was good in "How I Won the War", but Paul stunk up the screen in "Give My Regards to Broad Street" (aka let me rerecord my Beatle hits and make even  more royalty money off my lame 80s versions).  John Doe was good in "Great Balls of Fire" and Joe Strummer in that Jarmusch movie set in Memphis.

But the most pathetic has to be Dylan in "Hearts of Fire" from the 80s.  Co-starring "fiona".  One scene is truly pathetic.  Fiona is skinnydipping and Bob's character is going to jump in with her.   But instead of taking his clothes off, he jumps in completed dressed.  I guess the director thought the sight of his skinny wizened a** would drive people from the theaters.

I guess that's what you call a "nadir."

It galls me to say this, but Jagger in Performance is the only decent rock star-turned-actor , well, "performance", that I can think of.

qoute Richebacher:  "I dont really like Mayer at all, but it did occur to me he could have been talking about the World War II submarine movie that starred Jon BonJovi in it. It was pretty lame and i dont think Bonjovi is much of a actor. I thought this film was so bad I cant even remember the name of it. I dont think he was talking about "Yellow Submarine". Since "Yellow Submarine" was a cartoon and did not have the real Beatles in it till the very end for a cameo apperance, it would be hard to say that they acted in it"

thx, richenbacher..you're right Mayer wasn't talking about the Fab, he was referring to that recent german u-boat clunker at the box office w/ Bon Jovi in it.

Ringo was brilliant in Caveman. He grunted in all the right places. But seriously, he was pretty good in that one movie that I can't think of the name of right now. Keith Moon had a short part in it. What the hell was it called?? I think Ringo is a pretty good actor actually. He should have done more. David Bowie is also a natural and Mick Jagger can hold his own. The actors these days that are actually actors can't even act and movies suck anymore anyway so I think rock stars can do whatever the hell they want. What's one more crap so called actor in the grand scheme of things?
