Does anyone know how many there were and which songs? Which song is supposed to have F you like Superman and is that even true? Just wondering. My knowledge on this subject is limited! |

On the UK Pepper it had a blurb (released on Anthology) that was a mishmash of sounds and voices. It is about 2 seconds and was put into the record's runout groove so it would repeat forever or until you or the turntable lifted the tonearm.
It did NOT say 'f*** you like superman', in fact it doesn't 'say' anything. Many people have heard many different things because it was a collection of noises and sounds as noted above.
Backwards? All of Rev #9. Horrendous car crash, Paul yelling, sirens, people running and yelling, turn me on dead man...it is all there. On purpose? Beats me, I don't believe Paul is dead (yet). But it is pretty spooky to listen to.
Between I'm So Tired and Blackbird is John speaking (recorded backwards) and it *sounds* like 'Paul is dead man miss him miss him miss him.' Primarily because that's what we've been told to hear so the brain agrees. It IS close tho, closer than the 'superman' hype.
There's more of course, but not much of any real consequence. |

Thanks! So no F- you like superman ay? Heh! That would be kind of out there. It sucks that you can't do the whol backwards things on CD's. I mean, people just discovering the Beatles won't get to have the fun of trying to hear these messages for themselves. I mean, it is kinda part of the whole Beatles experience. Sort of. Although I suppose you can download them or something. Just not the same thing though! |

There are freeware sound recorder programs that have Reverse settings. One click and you can hear the whole song backwards, with perfect speed control. Better than a finger on a turntable (wobble wobble). One is Audacity, which is a bit involved for a total neophyte but an -excellent- free audio editing program from http://audacity.sourceforge.net. Once the program is installed you "import audio" from the Project menu (basically load a sound file), go to the Effects menu, click Reverse and play. Quite simple really. BTW: I wake screaming in the night and recall it was a dream about your avatars. |

Yeah it is kinda hard to hear backwards messages these days. I downloaded them all of a Paul is Dead site, but it would have been fun to try and find them for myself. |

It's at the VERY end of the Sgt Pepper album. |

So what would you download? A Day in the Life? That's the last song. The ironic part is that I actually have the album but no record player to play it on! Oh well. |

It's not ON the US record. It is on the UK version, along with the dog whistle.
You don't have the Pepper CD? There is a clip of it at the very end of the CD.
That you don't listen to backwards, you just listen to it to imagine hearing favorite superheroes copulating.
Rev 9 tho...and that would be a long a** download (unless you're on broadband). Or unless you have the White Album. |

I wasn't being peeved, I like using capital letters to stress a word. Or maybe I'll use *'s or dashes. ANyway, there is no ignorance here, just not informed yet. Still. I just don't want to piss you off and have you send some bad mojo avatar to my house. |

If you downloaded the track you probably wouldn't get the backwards bit - I'll upload it for you and along with the backwards version. |

It did NOT say 'f*** you like superman', in fact it doesn't 'say' anything. Many people have heard many different things because it was a collection of noises and sounds as noted above..
According to Paul in his biography "Many years from now", it does say something, They put "couldn't have been any other way, couldn't have been any other way", but then, playing it backwards, it was clear: "We'll f*** you like Supermen". |

Yes, he does say that, you are correct. Although in other interviews he says something different.
It does not say the superman bit. Backwards OR forwards. That was something that was heard by others and Paul professed amazement. For years it was also supposed to be saying '...this is the ending of the wax...'.
Just Beatle-mania. |

To me it sounds like John saying "never could see any", then Paul saying "other way", with someone going, "bah-ba-bah" in the background. Any other thoughts? |

I've uploaded it - now you can hear it forwards AND backwards... let the arguments commence!!! http://www.geocities.com/the_end_gb/dmforum/pepper.html
I hear : forwards 'I never could see any other one' : backwards 'we'll *uck you like you're supermen'. |

My point exactly. If Paul said in his book (and he does) that what was actually said was 'couldn't have been any other way' as Sadie4 provided, and in lieu of an absence of any other evidence...then that's what was said, frontwards, regardless of what it sounds like to different people. And backwards it says nothing. Once the phrases get around that 'this is what is said' the ear natuarally goes to that. If you were not told beforehand what to listen for there would be wildly varying interpretations. IMO (since I have no scientfic study to prove it). |

John saying Cranberry sauce? Up until it was revealed to be cranberry sauce, I thought I heard I buried Paul. It's true, you do hear what you're told you'll hear. Still sounds more like I buried Paul than cranberry sauce to me.

Exactly. Audiol illusion. (I made that up!) I always heard I buried Paul too, and when I read he'd said 'cranberry sauce' I didn't believe it because I could hear it (after years of conditioning myself to hear the buried line). Once I finally heard the outtakes, where the voice doesn't fade and where there are fewer instruments in the way, it is CLEAR that he says 'cranberry sauce', not once but twice. |

Backward message at the end of
I'm so Tired?
Mister Charlie, is it just John mumbling or is it anything that sounds like the rumored
Paul is dead, miss him miss him?
(I'm sure this was discussed elsewhere before but since I'm pretty new I didn't see it, so please forgive me) |

HI DR NICK!!! (sry somebuddy had to do it)
Ive always thought the backwards one at the end of Im so tired did sound a lot like "Paul is a dead man, miss him miss him". I wish i could post a link to a Paul is Dead site i was at, it had all the backwards messages there for you to hear. Sometimes the messages werent even backwards, I mean "The Walrus was Paul", |

I believe he was just mumbling John-isms, but this one realy DOES sounds like it...again, probably because one expects to hear it...but it is not in any way fashioned to do so...it doesn't sound like him clearly saying the words, it's backwards and tentative. But cooll I guess. |

Not really. It's only when people start to spread rumors of interpretations rather than facts. That's the whole point of Glass Onion, a slap at the fans who keep playing the label backwards looking for clues to...what? The secret of life? Sometimes in life there are simple coincindences. Yes. |

Sorry, I don't mean to depress you. The *idea* of a planned Beatle conspiracy IS cool. It just didn't happen. They were as surprised as anyone over many of the stories attached to what was for them just songs. It WAS a time where they seemed as if they might know more than the rest of us, they were so on the vanguard of everything. There was NO ONE bigger than them in the 60's. They WERE such a part of the times, musically as well as socialogically, that it is not at all surprising the urban legends and folklore and theories began...almost like a religion or something. Only their very public and final dissolution stemmed the tide of new sects rising up. I blther on far too much. The backwards stuff is cool, a lot of it IS there, you can hear it. Did they put it there on purpose? According to them, no. But it still gives me goosebumps when I head 'turn me on deadman'...it DOES say it, clearly, and how in the world anyone then, especially with that technology, could create that effect is impossible. A creep coincidence. Let me ask you this: you seem a bit disappointed about my take on this (which is fine)...did you invest a lot of belief in these things? |
