I was wondering what they teach you guys in England about the American Revolution, like about why it happened and such?  I dont mean this to sound rude to the English by the way.

Something about a tea-party in Boston which got a bit out of hand...

Actually, I can't remember much, it was such a long time ago - school, that is!

Yeah that tea will go stright to your head and before you know it youve declared war on a superpower.  Washington woke up with a SERIOUS hangover that time.  And guess what he'd been drinking?  Why, Samuel Adams of course

Uh, I have a question. Do Brit's shake hands when they meet or is that an American thing. I read a book written by an English person and they made a big thing of saying how bold Americans are and how reserved the British are. And then made a reference to the shaking hands thing. Just wondering!!

PS
I barely remember what I learned about the American Revolution! Something about red coats and 'The British are coming! The British are coming!' I do have the Charlie Brown/Snoopy version of it though! Very educational!

i dont think we really get taught anything about the american revolution. The main things to do with american history i was taught was 20th century history. Such as the depression, and the cold war and stuff like henry ford and how america became more and more industrielised. i think some people say that when americans shake hands they are more forth right and squeeze your hand harder, and brits tend to be more wimpy when shaking hands, but its probably a load of rubbish.

Yeah you're right, that is a load of rubbish - I wonder how these rumours start up... I supposed all it takes in one American to shake hands with a limp-wristed limey and we're all branded wimps!

To put the records straight - yes, we do shake hands. The only real difference between American and English people is that you lot speak our language funny!!!!!!!!!!

Okay. Sorry for the stupid question! I feel like an idiot! Anyway, this book confused me when it went into this whole thing about Americans having the habit of sticking their hand out to strangers and introducing themselves. He was on the subway and some pesky American started up a conversation out of nowhere. I guess it bothered the dude. Maybe this was just a cranky Englishman! You know how you guys can get!

Oh, we don't brand you guys wimps! Not for the handshake thing anyway.

Certainly there are cultural differences, not as many as if you compared people from the US to people from the...say....Sudan.

BTW: I don't believe it's called the American Revolution in the UK (Alan can correct me or not).  The 'freedom fighters' are reffered to as 'insurgents', the Brits almost found George Washington hiding in a spider hole in the American desert, King George (how eerie is THAT?! lol) had protesters to deal with at home whilst shovelling gold into trying to 'liberate' the Indians (heh)...

Well, you can see just how skewed a history book can become.  It's the winners who always write the history.  Take it with a grain of salt.

genralisations bout different people happen everywhere an are usually pretty harmless. the brits make em about americans as well. then in britain the english an scottish make generalisations about eachother. then people from northern england make generalisations about people from southern england an vice versa. most of them are based in truth but get over exagerrated.

same thing with us.  Massachewsits liberals, bible belt, west coast.  Everyone makes generalizations.

Alan and Kiss your bad self, I was just wondering if the teachers said that we were justified to revolt, or such.  I mean you lost a big colony so seems like they would have to brush over it.

Recently getting me History A-Level
I can say that I done nothing on the American Revolution ..

It was all James the First/Charles the Second and Cromwell...
But I wrote a 3000 word essay on Vietnam, and to what extent the Peace Movement helped end the War.

Took me bloody ages, but Im happy with the results.

Whats the matter lads? Blue Meanies?

Aww... and when we invade and occupy you (which we will because we have some apeshit crazy leaders), I'll tell peeple that your revolution was justified too.
