Zak Starkey joins OasisPublished: 2006-03-27 Writer: Michelle Garcia Oasis officially has a new drummer. Though Zak Starkey has been playing with the band since the departure of Alan White in 2004, he has finally been asked to become a permanent member of the band. White had been drummer for the Britpop band since 1995. He left quietly and without any of the scuffles usually associated with the Gallagher brothers. In the past Starkey has played drums for Icicle Works, the Waterboys, ASAP, and The Who. He got his first drum set at eight years old, from his father Richard Starkey who played drums for a Liverpool band called the Beatles. Clearly forging a career for himself in his father Ringo’s shadow, Zak can’t fully commit to Oasis because he is due to play with the Who during their upcoming tour. Luckily that tour begins after Oasis wraps up their current stint on the road. |
