Meh. We don't need to hear the explanations.
We ALL have our tastes, and Zep and Indica (and others like queenie) are certainly well within their rights to dislike the Who and speak up about it. SOme very popular groups hit me wrong as well, can't stand them, and never will. I'm sure we all have these quirks. It's not that their opinion diminishes the Who in any way, the band has acquitted itself admirably for decades. It's just that the group does little to nothing for some people, and that's cool.
Now if they disliked the Beatles I might question their sanity....
We don't need no explanations....
Yeah, yeah I know. But sometimes it's interesting to hear why someone dislikes a group. Like do their songs sound repetitve, is the writing bad, does the singer's voice annoy you, etc. Just curious you know. I used to hate the Who myself for awhile, but it's only because I listened to them so much I got sick of them. I mean, I'm not really into Zeppelin, but there are songs that I DO like. I would think that with a group with as many songs as the Who there would be at least one that's likable. So I'm curious. Hence the desire for a discussion.
NO, in all reality, I was not critiquing you or anyone else who might ask about someone's opinion, I was just making a generalized post about the subject.
Now Zep cannot help his compulsion to diss the Who every time the subject comes up, so he's fair game. We KNOW he only likes two Who songs. His continuing to tell us over and over seems less calculated to inform than it is to just p*ss on the Who (and maybe p*ss some fans off).
Indica has also indicated a dislike for the Who except for a song or two, but in a seemingly less often fashion.
But still, really, it don't matter. Yes, as discussion material it can be interesting and illuminating I suppose but usually all you get is like with any yes/no/love/hate/deomcrat/republican kind of discussion and that's a lot of grief.
But I wasn't addressing you per se at all with my grand pronouncement. I was just making noise, as usual.
After looking over my statement... The Who are Cack* I realise this was tipping on the harsh side. Its not that I think the Who are cack instrument-wise, infact being a bassist myself, I admire alot of John Entwistle's input (especially the obvious bass fills on My Generation). But its the overall feel that comes across when listening to the Who, which I cant relate to. The 'message' behind the Who, the audience etc..its part of the sixties culture which I dont really respect to a degree, because I dont like the sound the Who generate..which is purely taste. Townsend's Guitar playing and Daltrey's voice..just doesnt appeal to me.. nor the image direction the Who take. (mod or a rocker? )
The Who deserve the fame they have achieved, but Im not a fan...thats all. Like Charlie says "It's just that the group does little to nothing for some people, and that's cool" (thought the quote was needed )
Hey, silly question but, if there were a Pink Floyd reunion-all four members-how far would you travel and how much would you spend to see them??!! Or would you not care! Who knows, it could happen! They're like the only band around from that era that has all members still alive! Even Syd! Is there another band that has all it's original members still living from that time period? I can't think of one at the moment. If all four members of the Who were alive I'd give my left arm to see them!! Well, you know. I won't even mention the Beatles because we all know our heads would explode at the very thought!
Everyone's getting super testy. LEts get real, the only music that is really cack, is rap, country music, and The Monkees(hahahhahahaha).. Everything else has its high points.
