Ravi suggested that George grow a mustache and cut his hair so he wouldn't be recognized. This lasted 2 days. A young elevator attendant at the hotel noticed George coming down to the lobby, and the next day the hotel was mobbed with press. Afterwards, Ravi took George and Pattie to Srinagar in Kashmir where they stayed in a beautiful houseboat and George did his lessons.
Welcome to the Forums, Helterskelter.
All you've got to do is choose love. That's how I live it now. I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden. I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007
For all I know, Ringo might be a yogi disguised as a drummer! - George Harrison
Ravi suggested that George grow a mustache and cut his hair so he wouldn't be recognized.[...]
This is what George said in the Anthology: "GEORGE: Moustaches were part of the synchronicity and the collective consciousness. What happened to me was that Ravi Shankar wrote to me before I went out to Bombay, and in the letter said, 'Try to disguise yourself - couldn't you grow a moustache?' I thought, 'OK, I'll grow a moustache. Not that it's going to disguise me, but I've never had a moustache before, so I'll grow it.' "
You would think that as it was Elvis that one of them would have had a camera? Mal Evans always seemed to carry one. Maybe he wasn't there? So maybe they didn't jam. It's always sounded like they were pretty bored.
I've read that this pic is one of the few pics taken of them during their visit to Elvis in 1965. I'm surprised about this ... he was their idol ... where are the pics? no pics ... they don't exist ... they weren't taken ... incredible!!!
I can see John walking (middle of the pic) and George (right) talking to somebody.
Can you see Elvis?
I think that Elvis is the man on the left, by the door (there are four people there, from left to right: a woman, a man, another man looking inside -or at Elvis- and him).
From what I can find only two people claim that a jam took place and were actually in the room - john Lennon and Joe Esposito (Elvis aide). But Joe also says that they sent two cars especially to pick The Beatles up to take them to the house, and that the band was split between the two. That doesn't coincide with what The Beatles themselves say. (driving around aimlessly - getting stones - all falling out of the car).
I reckon they went for about an hour, got bored and left.
Hee! This is probably true.
Thanks for your research, Kevin! So, Joe Esposito remembers two cars. Given George and Ringo's account of the affair (where they admit to being fantastically stoned), we might want to trust Joe in this particular issue.
See, what happened was, John went in one car, and ended up jamming with Elvis. The other Beatles were dying of laughter in the other car, as witnessed by this one surviving photograph:

Thank for George's photos. "That Is All", as he sang. Ah no! Not all. Who's got the photos from the Beatles' last USA-Canada tour in 1966? I have only one, from the Candlestick Park.
