Hello everyone, I introduce myself with this post. I’ve been reading yours topics for months but, due to my poor English, I’ve never dared to write one before. (So I hope you excuse my English, anyway). The reason I write this time is to ask for your opinion in a Beatle song experiment: The other day I was listening the song “Misery” and I found out that, in my opinion, there isn’t an exact correspondence between the music and the lyrics of the song: a sad message through a mainly happy music. Something similar happens to “Help” but in this case Lennon himself said he was crying out for real help although anyone noticed at that time. Maybe Lennon was talking about real misery in that song too, so, with a little help from a friend, I recorded a demo cover of that song as it would be recorded by the Beatles in 1965 or 1966 instead in 1963 (after Dylan’s influence, so to speak). We also tried to create a new section in “ Mr. Kite” or “In my Life” style using some keyboards. This is just an idea that maybe needed further development. That’s the result and I thought it would be interesting to share with you as Beatles fans and experts. I apologize for the non professional sound (it’s a rough home demo recording) and the spanish-english accent. Maybe this encourages someone with a better voice and equipment to record a version in that style. Thanks in advantage for your 2 minutes and 17 seconds of your time!! http://www.hispasonic.com/musica-3754.html(just click in “Conexion rapida” if you have DSL or “Conexion lenta” if you haven’t) |

Thank you everybody. Somebody told me about the song: " Perhaps Lennon had a way of hiding misery with scarism. You now how someone might tell some else off but in a kidding sort of way while at the same time meaning every nasty word of it" or something like that. What do you thik about?. Cheers. U John. |

What you say about the music being happy and the lyrics sad is very true indeed and I kind'ah like it. This sort of musical "antithesis", as I like to call it, is specially noticeable in the song "I'm down". Its funny because whenever I'm down i hear that song and it cheers me up a bit. |

Well, that's a good point, Rocky Raccon. I never though about "I'm down" as another example of sad lyrics-happy music. Maybe it's just a way to handle everyday's problems: I'm thinking about John's and Paul's post war era, their childhood in a tough city as Liverpool..... Sure it got to be more songs like that. By the way, we could say we came from Nowhereland... but we are Spanish, really. Cheers pal! |
