I've read in many places that George was angry because he wanted t do guitar fills during Hey Jude, but Paul didnt let him.  Does anyone know if they ever practiced it like this, and if so if a version of it exists?  It would be really interesting to hear.

I don't think they ever recorded guitars. I think they actually agreed it'd be better without a guitar through it. Not sure though, not an expert, but I thought they had just agreed.

In the video aren't both John and George playing guitars in this song?

I think electric guitars would have spoiled the ballad-y feel of the song. That's just my opiniom, though.

Well, George was always bossed around my John and Paul in the earlier years and I guess he was angry about that because at that point he was finally starting to be repected on his own.

It's never nice being told what to do.

I remember reading that George was VERY mad and walked out of the sessions (he came back, obviously).  Another violin player walked out when Paul asked him to do handclaps.  A lot of tension

They never recorded the guitar 'version', Tim. I've found an audio interview in which Paul says that George wanted to play along with the guitar echoing the piano and words but Paul told George not to play and it.

Been a long time, yes, but in case anyone's interested:

A rehearsal where Paul didn't want George playing at all.

I'll have a dig around some bootlegs, see what I can find. Just because Macca said that doesn't mean it wasn't at least tried.

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
