It's a very good album, and has some great stuff like Careful With That Axe Eugene (live yet) and Several Species of Small Furry Animals, Granchester Meadows...all very good songs and sounds made without synthesizers ,,,Furry Animals itself is a breakthrough of sound effects mainly made by people's mouths.
If one is stoned it's a pretty awesome set, but one doesn't need to be stoned to hear the ingenuity involved.

i agree with you 100%, but piper at the gates of dawn is one of the best pyschadelic albums imo. i never really like syd though.
ummagumma is experimental... it's not an album for tight-asses, conservatives, conformists, yuppies, "preppy" kids, casual fans or people who don't like weird music, or who like shitty music...
In my opinion, it really says a lot about music and the world... It says a lot about how we all act and respond to different things... At least that's my opinion...
Plus, it is generally musically devoid, which adds a lot to the effect... The few real songs are very interesting to hear, though...
