I have it. It was good in a historical way. I don't what The Stones were trying to prove. Their performance was average. They don't translate well to t.v. Brian Jones didn't help much by playing rhythm guitar. The direction was twin guitar interplay and Mick Taylor was much better at it. I think that was when the guys decided he had to go because The Who's performance bettered theirs due to Brian's loss of skills. Dirty Mac was good on Yer Blues but I could have been spared Yoko's howl on the other stuff. Personally I thought The Who just threw a bunch of half finished tunes together and made it some kind of mini-opera. It was good but silly. The treat for me was watching Tony Iommi play with Jethro Tull. He left soon after to rejoin Black Sabbath because of Ian Anderson's Iron Fist. Iommi didn't fit Tull anyway. Too much talent to be a hired gun. Jesse Ed Davis is playing with Taj Mahal. He is one of the forgotten gunslinger guitarists in Rock. Drugs and Booze took him too soon. He would play sessions and want to get paid that day so he could score his next fix. What a waste.
[quote=flux]I have it. It was good in a historical way. I don't what The Stones were trying to prove. I think it's a classic case of Stones penis-envy. Beatles release Rubber Soul-Stones release "Between the Buttons" (check out the out of focus cover). Beatles release Sgt Pepper-Stones release Satanic Majesties (check out the pyschedelic cover) Beatles release The White Album-Stones release Beggars Banquet (double album, plain white cover). Beatles do Magical Mystery tour TV special-Stones do Rock and Roll Circus TV special........ It can't be easy being in the shadows
Out of interest I checked for any Stones forums-only found 1 but they've had no postings for a month. I LOVE bumping inrto Stones fans in the pub-easy as poking a pig with a stick.
There was a period when they had Mick Jones when they were better than The Beatles. Of course there were no Beatles at the time so you really can't make that comparison. I do think of the GREAT Stones music as the era they had Mick Taylor in the band.
