Anyone seen this DVD?
My friend recently bought it, and its well worth seeing!

Tajmahal, Jethro Tull, Marianne Faithfull, The Who, The Dirty Mac and of course The Rolling Stones! plus more..

Extra features include a healthy interview with Pete Townshend, another quad-camera version of Yer Blues, and more songs from the above bands.

The Packaging is great, inspired heavily by Peppers...with the obvious carnival feel.

A rare treat, which sums the mood of 68 perfectly.

I have both the video and DVD. Of course the DVD is better because of the extra footage, but I WISH they would have added more!!! Townshend's interview is very interesting. He's always interesting when he talks about that stuff though. I'm not crazy about the commentary. Marianne Faithfull's is the best. I wish she would have done the whole thing.

I love this film. It's great to see greats such as Clapton, Lennon and Mitch Mitchell together. Yer Blues sounded great... My favorite parts of it are You Can't Always Get What You Want and Sympathy for the Devil, though, because those are my favorite Stones songs, and they played them great.

I think this is such an awesome film and all the performances are great. The Who were awesome and it was cool to see A Quick One While He's Away brought to life.

I agree about Townshend, the interview is really interesting, and his points are often honest.
But I think Marianne Faithfull's performance is awful...I mean, she certainly looks the part..but, for me, thats where it ends.

Sympathy for the Devil is a great song..
But Yer Blues tops the gig... obviously

Tajmahal are great, especially the extra songs you get in the special features.

No no! Not her performance!! I'm not crazy! I mean her audio commentary. She's very interesting to listen to and gives some insight into what they were thinking back then. I HATE her performance!

I saw The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus on bootleg video about 14 years ago & also saw it commercial free on VH1 about 10 years ago.  The Dirty Mac with John, Keith Richards & Eric Clapton playing Yer Blues is a kick a** classic performance.  BTW, legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is with Jethro Tull in the R&R Circus.

I thought the Stones gave a mediocre performance which could have been much better.

I have it. It was good in a historical way. I don't what The Stones were trying to prove. Their performance was average. They don't translate well to t.v. Brian Jones didn't help much by playing rhythm guitar. The direction was twin guitar interplay and Mick Taylor was much better at it. I think that was when the guys decided he had to go because The Who's performance bettered theirs due to Brian's loss of skills. Dirty Mac was good on Yer Blues but I could have been spared Yoko's howl on the other stuff. Personally I thought The Who just threw a bunch of half finished tunes together and made it some kind of mini-opera. It was good but silly. The treat for me was watching Tony Iommi play with Jethro Tull. He left soon after to rejoin Black Sabbath because of Ian Anderson's Iron Fist. Iommi didn't fit Tull anyway. Too much talent to be a hired gun. Jesse Ed Davis is playing with Taj Mahal. He is one of the forgotten gunslinger guitarists in Rock. Drugs and Booze took him too soon. He would play sessions and want to get paid that day so he could score his next fix. What a waste.

I think it's a classic case of Stones penis-envy. Beatles release Rubber Soul-Stones release "Between the Buttons" (check out the out of focus cover). Beatles release Sgt Pepper-Stones release Satanic Majesties (check out the pyschedelic cover) Beatles release The White Album-Stones release Beggars Banquet (double album, plain white cover). Beatles do Magical Mystery tour TV special-Stones do Rock and Roll Circus TV special........

There was a period when they had Mick Jones when they were better than The Beatles. Of course there were no Beatles at the time so you really can't make that comparison. I do think of the GREAT Stones music as the era they had Mick Taylor in the band.

Yeah I agree - Stones came into their own AFTER the Beatles had left the scene, so its a moot point really.
Stones fans always say they were better live, but if you look at Stones circa '63-'66 they're pretty static on stage. It's only in '69 that you get Mick and his "f** dancing" (John's quote), and of course we'll never know what the B's would have been like.
I think giving up playing live was the B's biggest mistake.

hmmm im not sure on that one .. ive been doing gigs for the last .. i would say 12-15 years .. and believe me its not fun at times..so i can understand to a point why the Beatles gave up touring .. weather it was a good thing or not .. but if they did carry on would they have produced the albums they did ? who knows .....

I don't think they had to tour - festivals and one-offs maybe. I just think it's the glue that binds bands together. The Devil and idle hands and all that

It's a piece of Rock and Roll History that's nice to see because it shows just how a few bands got together with little hoopla! Today the record companies, lawyers, and the entire money making machine would have ground to project to a halt! The Rolling Stones were definatley on thier game! On another note I'm surprised that the band didn't film some thing cool for the "S-M-R" Lp?

I just loved the way John was dancing to Sympathy for the Devil.

John: You're just a lonely old man from Liverpool.

I'm not sure The Beatles would have been very good at jamming. That was what was happening musically around the time Get Back was worked on. They could rehearse a song and play it as rehearesed. Listen to the number of takes of Get Back. They are all almost identical. They would have had to develop their 'chops' and John was not interested, as he said in rehearsing. George was too methodical and Ringo not much of a soloist. Paul could jam with the best of them. They were tight. Solo years shows this..Paul was the only one who had the confidence to play live.

I wanted to get this DVD only because John was in it, but my mum won't let me buy it cos she can't stand the Stones, especially Mick Jagger. I don't know what's her problem, she's not the one that's gonna be watching it. Poor me...

I have to agree. I have some different long versions of 12 Bar Original and it gets pretty tedious and so are some of the other jams on various boots, but I'd still love to get my hands on the 27 minute version of 'Helter Skelter' to see where that went, aside from the obvious blisters.
