I think the only fair way to compare the two is when they were contemporaries, say from late '66 through mid '70 since Jimi died in September, and during those years I have to say they ran neck and neck (no pun intended), though I have to say I give Jimi the nod because he was so innovative. That's not to say EC wasn't-hardly the case-but Jimi was doing everything from straight acoustic blues to his sonic-axis-whateverthehell. I always thought it was cool that with Paul in attendance at one of Jimi's gigs, Jimi did 'Sergeant Pepper's' two days after the album was released and blew him away.
Yeah, I like that story. Did he ever record it? If not I wish he had!! I'd love to hear his take on that intro. I love what he did at the beginning of All Along the Watchtower.

Hi Sandra. Its on various bootlegs. I heard it once, just raw, cool Jimi. One day to practice it next night he's out in front of Paul, Clapton, and Pete Townshend all sitting at the same table. I would love to see what he'd be like today, like up there jamming away at one of Clapton's Crossroads benefits with him and Buddy Guy and Albert King, etc.
I said Hendrix, I love them both though, I always ask people this, it's a great debate
