Well I think Hendrix as a innovator, but Clapton as a journey man of the guitar!  John Mayhall, Derek Dominos, Cream, Yardbirds all impressive work!

both are great...i picked clapton, probably unfairly, because he's been around so long and done so many things with so many different people.   tough choice because hendrix music is like a style....you know, classical, rock, jazz, hendrix, blues, etc

They're both amazing guitarists, but I chose Hendrix. I'm not saying that Clapton isn't original, but Jimi Hendrix is the only one who can play Hendrix. Period. Clapton is great, I love his work, it blows me away. In the same period of time -- maybe four years? -- I don't think Clapton could've established what Hendrix did.

And "Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock... I seriously didn't think a guitar could be played like that and make those sounds. Friggin' amazing, that.

Things they do look awful c-c-cold... yeah, I hope I die before I get old.

I didn't vote because EC & JH are equally great legendary rock guitarists with few equals & in a class all by themselves.

Since I already know Hendrix & Clapton are equally great as rock guitarists, how did you choose Jimi over Eric anyway, was it based of his virtuosity or impact GreenApple?

I think there are lots of people who are so bowled over by Hendrix that they take as a given that Hendrix is the ultimate guitar talent. There's that, and I am one of them. I mean, Hendrix knocks me backwards and takes my breath away, sort of. But, Clapton doesn't do that for me. That's one point.

The other, as we all know, is that there are two views on Clapton; one is that he is the greatest, the other is that he is just good. I subscribe to the latter view.

After saying that, please remember that these things are subjective by nature!

Yeah, I like that story. Did he ever record it? If not I wish he had!! I'd love to hear his take on that intro. I love what he did at the beginning of All Along the Watchtower.

If you're still interested you can hear Jimmi's playing Sgt. Pepper's here (and Day tripper too):

If you like Clapton (I do too) check the video of John (and his Dirty Mac Band: Mitch Mitchell on drums, Keith Richardrs on bass guitar and Eric Clapton on lead guitar -he laughs while Yoko is dancing, tho we can't see Yoko that is inside the big black bag) doing Yer Blues.
It's under " NEW! HERE'S A MOVIE WITH MICK JAGGER AND JOHN LENNON TALKING, THEN JOHN SINGS YER BLUES WITH THE ERIC CLAPTON, KEITH RICHARDS AND MITCH MITCHELL FROM THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE!"
I love the intro, with John and Mick Jagger.
