If you like Clapton (I do too) check the video of John (and his Dirty Mac Band: Mitch Mitchell on drums, Keith Richardrs on bass guitar and Eric Clapton on lead guitar -he laughs while Yoko is dancing, tho we can't see Yoko that is inside the big black bag) doing Yer Blues. It's under " NEW! HERE'S A MOVIE WITH MICK JAGGER AND JOHN LENNON TALKING, THEN JOHN SINGS YER BLUES WITH THE ERIC CLAPTON, KEITH RICHARDS AND MITCH MITCHELL FROM THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE!" I love the intro, with John and Mick Jagger.
Of course this video was filmed on december 1968 for the The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. http://dvdmg.com/rollingstonescircus.shtml After all, this is a thread about Hendrix and Clapton and I don't want Indica to warn me, so I leave it here.
Sorry, I forgot your view! Well, I'm somewhat surprised that Clapton has such a following. I could be stirring something up now, but I would put other guitarists ahead of Clapton. Hendrix No. 1, followed by, Gilmour, Santana, and others. I know Carlos plays a lot of simple stuff, but it's the passion and warmth he puts into it. I'm a big Carlos and Santana fan.

Ahhhh.....I found a Santana fan! I saw them live...in Japan. The Supernatural tour. It was like a dream come true really, at the time. Brilliant.
What's your view on all this 'featuring' stuff? I thought it was really cool and exciting at first, but now - I think he's taken it too far. I'd rather see him go back to making albums like he made before with 'core' vocalists. And, he used to make albums on musical 'themes' - bluesy, jazzy, soulful, spiritual, hard rock, etc.. I think he's very happy with the 'featuring' formula now, and will probably stick with it permanently. But, it's all gone a bit too commercial for me.
Hendrix easily! He did more in less time while mastering the guitar. It's a shame he couldn't have lived longer!
Clapton hasn't played with any real fire since the mid seventies. There was a LONG period of bland music from him. Totally uninspired. It's amazing how many people buy into the belief that he is the grandfather of the blues.
I will give a little credit for his recent stint with Cream, some of that smokes! It was long overdue.
