Hi All....as you can see I'm a newbie here, and its probably a bit pretentious to start a new thread without "earning one's stripes", but I couldn't see where this subject has been discussed before, and I thought it might be interesting.

I'd like to introduce myself briefly first - I've been fan since I was about 5.  I'm 35 now, I live in Australia and the Beatles inspired me in more ways that I can describe.  I've been looking for a sensible, intelligent Beatles board and by Jove, I think I may have found it!

While scrounging around here in the past day or so, I got to thinking about which Beatles songs are forgotten by most fans, but really are great numbers.  Y'know, the ones that you hardly ever hear on the radio or included in compilations, but truly deserve a place alongside the great tunes they crafted.

So I'll start things off with "Hey Bulldog".  I think its a great track, has some excellent grooves in it and it sounds fun.  I think it suffered a bit as the Beatles always considered it a "throwaway", but not many arrtists at that time cold have afforded to purge a song like that.

Any other ideas?

I've yet to hear This Boy on the radio or a supermarket's radio speakers.  It's a gem and really needs to have its dues paid.

Hey Bulldog is definately a good song, and so is Savoy Truffle - both of which are underrated. So is my personal favourite song, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite.

I know many, many people will disagree with me on this one, but I think Wild Honey Pie is a good song. It may be a little off-hand lyrically, but personally I love the sound aspect of songs, over the lyrical aspect.
That's what makes songs great... music.

Cheers, thanks Sadie.

I love Hey Bulldog.  It's really the only reason I bought the Yellow Submarine cd when I upgraded from vinyl.

I completely agree with you! The trippy sounds and effects on Wild Honey Pie are really great and I love that song. I'm sure glad Patti was around because of this (besides all the wonderful pictures  )...

The only thing I differ with is that I like music on a whole and don't like either lyrics over the sound and vice versa.

I think there are many songs not appreciated enough, but my opinion is (because there is so many songs to hear!) to each his own...

it's the best on yellow submarine, the rest are very good but repeats of other albums (ex. all you need is love, eleanor rigby, sgt. pepper's, etc.)

Well, I guess there are a couple of us people out there who have tendancy to love songs other people find annoying or pathetic. Dig It is also a very underrated, yet brilliant song.
