I never really got Ginger Baker for some reason. I just hear that clippity-cloppity beat to Sunshine of Your Love. Maybe it's the way they were miked. Bonham just sounds so much bigger. BTW does Moon sound just a bit buried in some of the Who mixes--I'm thinking of Who's Next?
I'd like to know what Bonham does that is SO much greater than Moon. I just think he's often picked because of the band he was in. I KNOW he was great, but I don't think he was an innovater. Maybe he was, I don't know. I KNOW Moon was though for sure. His antics off stage are all people remember him for. Watch/listen to him at 18 drumming to their early stuff. It's amazing. Who else was doing that?? I just don't get it. I'm not putting Bonzo down, just wondering what is it that puts him above Moon. And yeah, he could groove and pound. Is that it? If anything, they are equal in greatness. Great at different things. But Keith was the innovator of the two.

Simplicity may be genius, but so is being able to push the boundries of an instrument to places that no just any musician can do. There's also genius in using the instrument in ways that no one else thought to do. Creating sounds that are unique to their style. If anyone can pick up a guitar or drum and play it the way these guys did, then I would think, why didn't anyone else think to play it like that before? And why do these guys stand out? It's not always simple. Like David Gilmour, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Jimi Hendrix. How easy are they to emmulate? I have no idea not being a musician.
Yeah, that doesn't help. I can list a bunch of Who songs to where Moon excells. That's not what I'm looking for. I'm curious as to a drummers opinion especially.
PS I love that song. I know he grooves and pounds on it. That's his strength. Still, wondering why he's put above Moon as innovator. And you hate the Who so you're biased.
