Chose your favorite singer out of the choices in the poll, the best one in your opinion...i didn't put an "others" choice, but if your favorite isn't it the poll (which is very very possible...) mention him/her anyways...it's always curious to know |

All 3 Wilson brothers used to be amazing singers by the way. I seriously don't understand why Mike Love was pretty much the lead singer of the Beach Boys, cause the other 5 (including Bruce Johnston) all have much better voices than he had. |

Technically I'd go Mercury. Otherwise it's a toss up between Macca and Lennon. All are great really. No black singers there though...Maybe could have mentioned The Stevie Wonder and maybe MJ could get the vote for best kid singer of all time. |

AMONG NON-BEATLES EFFORTS:
Male: Harry Nilsson (John and Ringo's pal) on "Without You," the Badfinger cover for which he actually did win a best-vocal Grammy; Runnerup: Carl Wilson on one of Paul's favorite songs "God Only Knows" ("So what good would LIV-ING DO ME?") Also Rod Stewart on "I Don't Wanna Talk About It" and the Everly Brothers on "Devoted To You." Mick Jagger is also surprisingly affecting on "Angie" (which, contrary to latter day popular belief about "Satisfaction," is actually the Stones' all-time biggest seller in America.) Elton John's best is "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me."
Female: Dusty Springfield on "Goin' Back" (the Goffin-King masterpiece) -- "And every DA-AY can be my magic carpet ride." Next: Karen Carpenter on "Hurting Each Other." (Lennon's friend and best biographer, the late Ray Coleman, with whom I once had the privilege to chat at Beatlefest, also wrote her biography and recoounts an incident when John ran into Karen in L.A., effusively praising her talent, which, understandably, floored her. During his California period John also attended a special performance by another of my favorites, Anne Murray, who was a frequent coverer of Lennon-McCartney songs, as were the Carpenters.) My favorite Streisand effort is "Songbird." And I love Dionne Warwick's vocal on "Take A Message To Michael" (as usual for her, a Bacharach-David composition/production) Among recent ones, the only Whitney Houston record I like is "One Moment in Time" from the 1988 Olympics. Maraih Carey and Celine Dion certainly have some impressive ones as well.
I assume that anyone saying Roger Waters, who can't sing at all -- just listen to his croaky solo material -- actually means David Gilmour, on such brilliant Pink Floyd efforts as "Comfortably Numb." (So many rock group albums deliberately leave off vocal credits that any confusion is understandable.) |

No, someone may actually like Roger's voice. He sings with a lot of emotion of Floyd albums. Some of the songs he sings are my favorites. Brain Damage, Shine On, In the Flesh. He's not much of a singer, but he has (had) a way of interpreting a song that made you look past his limitations. Well, either that or the person was joking!! Anyway, I llke when he and Dave switch off vocals. They go well together. Dave has an amazing voice. Can't explain it though. |

How could I forget Roger Daltry on "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Love, Reign Oe'r Me"? Ditto Carly Simon on "Haven't Got Time For The Pain," Karen Carpenter on "Close To You," (especially "just like me-ee, they long to be..."), Rod Stewart on "Handbags and Gladrags" and "The First Cut is the Deepest," Dusty's "The Look of Love,".... |

Lets toss in Mama Cass on 'Words Of Love', Petula Clark on 'Sign of the Times', Grace Slick on 'Somebody To Love' (how long does she hold that note?), Pat Benetar on 'Hell is For Children', and Ann Wilson on anything.

Yes, I like all of those too. My favorite of Petula's vocals is on a big ballad called "Where Did We Go Wrong?" (My favorite of her tracks is "I Know A Place," which obliquely refers to the Cavern Club.) And Mama Cass's vamping on the M&P's version of "I Call Your Name" has justifiably led many people to list it as one of the greatest Beatles' covers. Ditto Pat Benatar's "Helter Skelter," and Heart is one of the very few acts to have ever covered "I'm Down." |

Consider this: Freddie Mercury had an amazing vocal power, but... in his last decade he sang really bad in concerts. He didn't reach the high notes, always stay in a limited vocal range. I think that's crap, because you just have to sing live as you sing in the studio. So, of the options I choose Sir Paul McCartney because he sings really good as today.
But definitely the best singer ever is the marvellous Stevie Wonder. His voice is so beautiful, and so incredibly high, I've never seen somebody singing with such strength. My second favourite is Michael Jackson, an incredible vocal power. |

If we're talking about best vocals and not favorite then I'd definately go with Paul McCartney of 1967-1979. Those twelve years of singing he could reach almost any vocal range humanly possible. The man had a voice that was a gift from god. He did almost all genres of music at those times. He had the deep rugged Rock'n'rol voice for songs like WildLife, I've got a feeling, MoonkBerry Moon Delight, Why Don't we do it in the road etc. He had higher pitched songs like When The Night(He also uses a deeper voice in the end) My Love, Get Back, Mamma's Little Girl, Heart of the Country, Oh Woman Oh Why, Let Me Roll it and so many more. No other singer had the vocal range he did. The other singers listed on the poll are great singers but they just didn't have the range McCartney had. |

I'd choose Paul McCartney, he has & still does show great strength's in his vocals. He still rocks out singing songs like Mama Only Knows & Nod Your Head. Agree Puggy, Marvin Gaye was an incredible singer & i rate him highly! His vocals on the album Let's Get It On knocks just about anybody out! |

Robert Plant and John Lennon have been the only ones in that selection that have given me the shivers many times. My favorite vocals though would probably be one of the Wilson brothers though. |
