Yeah I hope you know what I mean, but I was wondering if you knew if it´s John or Paul? |

I have always believed it was John. Until recently, when it turns out to have been Paul (finishing his middle part). Amazing how like each other these two could sound. |

Hmm I guess it could go either ways.
Interesting. |
| I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we pass the audition. |

Really? Ever hear Let Me Roll It? Fact is they sang so closely together in the early days that they had to follow each other's style perfectly, and did. They both developed the ability to mimic the other. |

I wish I had the reference to which it was proved to me to be Paul. Believe me, I wasn't going to go easily, as I have assumed it was John since I was 14 when it came out. SOmeone produced something that convinced me but damned if I can remember what. Sorry about that.
So I guess you have to take what I say with a grain of salt. if I come across it I will post it. |

John did have a distinctive voice, but I wouldn't say Paul couldn't do it. Fact is we have no way to 'prove' it either way. But what the heck, without definitive proof we can all believe whatever we want. Hell, I also surmised that it was Paul up until the orchestra drowns him out, and when the ahhhh voice comes back I figured that's where it switched to John and then he strats singing the last verse. |

Didn't Paul deliberately record it to sound like john (the piano and vocal intro is a dig at Mother from POB, and its even got its own "primal scream" at the end. It was Pauls' gentemanly response to Lennons "How do you sleep?" |

Its John. Paul sounds like Paul on "Let Me Roll It", the only reason anyone would think he sounds like John is because, yes, it was an ode to John and Paul used reverb on his voice and then there's the pseudo-Primal Scream at the end. If you think his voice sounds like John, not the reverb imitation, you've got a hearing impediment. Get those ears checked boy. |

It's amazing how things like this get a roll on so FAST on internet forums. Someone comes along with a suggestion out of left field (like Mr C did here), and some people immediately believe it!
The arhhh in ADITL sounds to my ears (& lotsa others') like John. Some think it sounds like Paul. And the world keeps on revolving!
On Let Me Roll It, it sounds to my ears like Paul throughout.
Some people love to stretch. |

Pardon me while I extend a gentle f*** you to you. I admitted I had no proof (yet), and that this is not MY contention but is one of those Beatle controversies that has been going on a long time. Until YOU provide proof that it is John you offer no more than your own mere opinion. |

You're wrong on many counts. 1.) It IS Paul. Get used to it. 2.) Paul claims it was not an ode, a peace pipe nor a rip of John. Most people who have heard it tend to think differently. 3.) The reverb, choppy 6/4 guitar and primal screams...gee, those ALL must have been accidents. They were, in fact, known Lennon stylings, which Paul used. I'd suggest getting a few things checked were I you. |

Well, tk, you'd be wrong. Sorry. But Paul gets asked this question constantly, and tho he denies it was meant to be anything to do with John. the fact is enough people have assumed so over the decades because it uses his guitar and vocal and arrangement stylings. It IS Paul doing John. Too much evidence against it being just a fluke. |

Must be great to be so self-aware. No one has any proof about that song or ADITL. Paul says it wasn't him doing John, so that is a sort of proof. But so is John's voice, guitar, lead and primal scream coming out of the speakers. Blow it off if you wish, but this is not a Paul Is Dead whackjob conspiracy theory. He clearly was doing John. I cannot prove it, but neither can you. |

Fine. Prove it's John. What are you going by, your ears? That's pretty much all ANYone has to go by. No, I have not realy researched to see if I can re-find the reasons why I was convinced it was not John after so many years. But it was compelling enough for me to admit I was wrong. |

Yeah, m.c., I do tend to use my ears when listening to music. You said yourself for years and years you thought it was John so I suppose you have ears too.And you can't remember what made you change your mind. You're going against the grain so it's up to you to prove it's Paul. Too bad if you can't. |

Just write a fanletter to Paul and ask him if he sang that part in A Day in the Life. I've never heard 'Let Me Roll It' (except maybe on the 'Back in the U.S.' DVD) but I always believed that John sang that part in A Day in the Life. (Counting on my ears) |

No. 1) The part in question in 'A Day In The Life' is John. No. 2) It was an ode to John No. 3). You made my point for me. That's what I said, the reverb/scream were "known Lennon stylings, which Paul used. No 4). I suggest not being such a defensive di*k whenever someone has an opinion, or fact for that matter, that doesn't agree with your narrow mindset. Apparantly, you read as well as you hear. |

**Nope. But you're free to believe whatever makes you more comfortable with life.
No. 2) It was an ode to John
**I think so too but according to Paul it was not. Again, believe what you wish.
No. 3). You made my point for me. That's what I said, the reverb/scream were "known Lennon stylings, which Paul used.
**Neither I nor anyone else EVER suggested that it wasn't Paul. No 4). I suggest not being such a defensive di*k whenever someone has an opinion, or fact for that matter, that doesn't agree with your narrow mindset. Apparantly, you read as well as you hear.
**And I couldn't care less about your suggestion. You are not expressing opinions, you are declaring them as facts, which they are not. I replied in kind. Guess that makes you a dick as well, eh? |

Yeah, m.c., I do tend to use my ears when listening to music.
** What I simply meant was that we all hear things differently, and none of us can use that as proof. I wasn't meaning to insult you.
You said yourself for years and years you thought it was John so I suppose you have ears too.And you can't remember what made you change your mind.
**Which is entirely my own problem, agreed.
You're going against the grain so it's up to you to prove it's Paul.
**There IS no 'grain'. It's a 50 50 proposition.
Too bad if you can't.
**Again, I agree. If I felt compelled enough I would knock myself out to find the proof. Frankly I just don't care what anyone else wants to believe. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong but nothing is going to change the Truth, whether I want it to be one way or not. Someone will find something definitive and that will be that. Until then, your ears are as good as anyone else's.

Look tk and most others: I do apologize for the briskness of my replies, it wasn't meant. To you.
This isn't MY 'theory'. I held the same thoughts as many of you. The fact is that I simply tossed it out there, because the question was asked. I was shown proof in a forum that is -far- more scholarly and plugged into Beatle stuff than this place. Not a put-down, I like it here. Just a fact.
But there is no reason for you to take MY word for it. Think what you wish to. Should I stumble upon the proof I will present it. If I don't, then all you have is my word which, frankly, I wouldn't take either if it were someone else.
For those who want to be dicks I can do that, no prob. All day long if that's what you want.
But my replies WERE too "this is it get used to it" cocky and I apologize for that, at least to those who did not respond to me in that manner. I was in fact replying to the few who could not simply express their opinion without denigrating what I had said. |

No, but I won't swing at these pitches in the dirt. You do enough damage to yourself with your posts, and I am comfortable with the fact that there are self-righteous wimps that hide behind a keyboard like yourself. I think my first post here was giving a positive review of the 'Every Little Thing' compilation. Your reply? That it was probably a sales pitch for something I was selling, which I wasn't. Why? Because you enjoy being a cyber-hemmorhoid. So be it. Must have been 52 tough years and you should take your quote to heart, my friend, you are spoiling the party, so go. Kiss Kiss. |

LOL...whatever, "junior". Stay comfortable. I am neither a wimp, self-righteous nor hiding, let alone from someone like you. Fact: My reply was that it was probably a sales pitch BUT yes, it was an excellent compilation. If you've been on the Internet for more than ten minutes you've seen all these breathless pitches attached to an ebay link. Guess you're a bit thin-skinned enough to have missed that bit. I also marvel at the fact that you now apparently feel you speak for the entire "party"? |

Hey man, I believe you were here before, and left. You came back - why? To hear you talk, it was to save this board from the nasty Dirk. So who is going to save it from the nasty Mr Charlie? Are you the same "Mister Charlie" that has thrown his weight around on rmb for a long time? It sure sounds like the same cocky rudeness! "Slap some sense into dirkless?" Physician, heal thyself. That "*yawn*" certainly shows you are that pseudo-Beatles expert on rmb. I've noticed that whenever you're bested in an argument there, you go for the *yawn*. Dead giveaway. |

Nice try, troll, but you don't know squat, about me, Beatles OR rmb.
So stop being such a waste of skin and try contributing something positive.
And btw: ooohhh, you've been outted. You can skulk away again and come back later with a new identity. You'll be caught out again. Even newbies know how to smell mess a mile away. |

There's a ring of desperation about these taunts. Using insults already used by your opponent (tosser, loser) always sound hollow. You're much more impressive when you branch out: I liked this one Tell you what, stop coming on to me, as I only date within my own species, as it is sort-of original. The trouble is, you left me the opportunity to point out that the taunt doesn't quite work, as I could still be the human, and you a member of a sub-humanoid species. And of course, no well-adjusted person could interpret anything I said as "coming onto you". Your attempted insult is a double rebound back at you! If you like, you can take my correspondence course in presenting yourself to best advantage on the internet. You need it! LOL! Lastly, are you really through for now? Bet you can't resist trying to have the last word. |

Tim Riley, p. 127, Tell Me Why, a song by song dissection of the Beatles catalog. He states Paul is the one singing. While the book has some errors (as every single Beatle book does) it is generally a respected and well thought of tome.
This was not what had convinced me tho, I have still been unable to root that out. There is an amazing lack of evidence on this by all of the authors who would normally trot out the info, perhaps because it is assumed everyone already knows. Or perhaps it is assumed that no one really knows. At least one other author (who escapes me at the moment) says it is John.
SO there is less hard evidence and more ambiguity to this then I remembered. So I apologize to all for my hard-assed attitude about it. Although that was prompted by Ydoll's asinine remarks and then set the tone for my defensiveness, the bottom line is I cannot come up with the goods (beyond the above) so it will forever be a take it or leave it proposition.
However consider that Paul had the middle bit, they needed a transition to bring them back to the right key for the last verse, and what they came up with is simple but brilliant. And that Paul is singing about going into a dream and then a dream-like passage follows back into John's bit. It just makes sense, as they only had 4 tracks to play with, that this was him singing as continuing the lyric and his bit and then spliced onto John's final verse. At least to me. |
