It's easy for me to pick out John's masterpiece, that would be A Day in the Life. But for Paul I don't know. Let it Be has been my favorite song since I was six, so I think I'd go with that. Any thoughts? What did I leave out?????

The Long and Winding Road.

Even though pretty much everyone else seems to hate it, that's my favorite one by Paul.

Closely followed by For No One, Let It Be, Michelle and Here, There & Everywhere.

I think that if there would have to be one song that's generally considered to be Paul's masterpiece, it'd either have to be Yesterday or Let It Be...

'Long & Winding Road' for sentimental reasons.  Pretty ambitious, if not impossible task you picked Sandra. Tough to narrow it down to just a handful of songs, but I thought you did a good job.

Out of that list,,,,Eleanor Rigby and Let It Be. Hey Jude would be next for me on that list and I love the song, but its not a masterpiece in my opinion. The remainder of the songs just keep dropping down the list.

I agree about The Long & Winding Road, its a great piece of Mccartney writing.
I would have to say Eleanor Rigby, just for the mood is gets across, its a flawless song.

An amazing strings arrangement from the incredible George MArtin makes that a top contendor. (Eleanor Rigby)

For No One has a great melody, and (unusually for Paul) a great set of lyrics. John was always on fire lyrics-wise, and in that period so was Paul (66-6, and George was on the rise. They are the factors that make Revolver so brilliant.

For No One, with E Rigby, P Lane, F on the Hill, and Jude as runners up.

i picked Helter Skelter. It's just a rocking song.

i never quite understood why Eleanor Rigby was so popular. I always disliked it for some reason.

Hey Jude is his masterpiece, that is perfect songcrafting.

Sandra, I'm interested to see that you view A Day in the Life as Johns masterpiece.  What made the song so brilliant was the collaboration of Paul.  His bit, and the bridges between it (courtesy of George Martin), as well as the "I'd love to turn you on" lyric, are what make it a great song.  I definately wouldnt call this a John song.  In my opinion, Strawberry Fields Forever is his masterpiece.  Pure John, pure brilliance.

Hmm... Let It Be is my favorite Beatle song of all time, but I gotta pick Hey Jude for its awesome crowd-uniting features and incredible anthem.

What makes that song to me are the haunting vocals by lennon and that melody. I know it's a collaboration, but I never really cared for Paul's part. Any of these songs are collaborations in some way except for Yesterday. I also think I Am the Walrus and Across the Universe are masterpieces by John. I know I'm supposed to love Strawberry Fields, but I just don't. The lyrics are beautiful though. Revolution is also an amazing song. Not to mention a million others. But A Day in the Life for me is the greatest song ever and I mostly relate it to John.

Hey Jude....I think Helter Skelter is a hard rock gem which gets overlooked during his Beatles days while Yesterday is overrated.

I choose Hey Jude out of the above, because I just think it's a sort of perfection. But I love them all.

Also, I want to give a shotuout to FOOL ON THE HILL, because I think that should be up there. Seriously. What a great song.

Hey Jude, don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better....

Class. Pure Class.

Anyone can relate to those lyrics, I feel that Hey Jude is a gift from Paul to everyone who's having troubles in their life, it's a very personal song between Paul and the person who is recieving it. It just beats Let It Be by a touch, for me Let It Be is a song to mourn by, Hey Jude has a very optimistic stance.

And WTF do you mean 'claiming' to be a Beatles fan??? I've been a f-ing fan since I was 6 years old. Just because I don't obsess about every freaking little thing doesn't make me any less of a fan. You should choose your words more carefully. At least I try and discuss things and find out more. I don't claim to be a Beatles expert. I'm only trying to talk to other Beatles fans to expand my knowledge and interest. It's people like you that make me want to stay away from this forum.

Yeah, it's a great one. One of the albums I had as a kid was the Beatles Love Songs and I played that one A LOT!! Along with She's Leaving Home, Long and Winding Road, In My Life, Something, and Here Comes the Sun. That was a great album now that I think of it. Wonder why they don't have it on CD.

Hey Jude for me, hands down. It's probably my favourite song, ever. It's great lyrically, melodically, the recorded version is amazing [The orchestra totally adds to it -- at about 3:40, 3:50 where the louder part comes in ... man. Musical orgasm if ever there was one.] the unity of the song . . . I mean, WHO else could write a song that goes "na na na" for around FIVE MINUTES like that and it'd still be beautiful and enjoyable? Paul. Friggin'. McCartney. <3 Much love.

Let It
