I just returned from my band's mini tour through the UK, and on Saturday we played somewhere in Liverpool. We arrived at the venue, set up the amps and drum kit, and then we got told that we had an hour left before soundcheck. I didn't have a clue where in Liverpool I exactly was, but I decided to use that hour (the only hour I'd get to see anything of the town) to see if there was anything Beatles related in the neighborhood, even though I knew chances would be minimal because Liverpool is of course a pretty big city. So I asked someone if there was anything interesting to see within a walking distance, and it turned the Cavern was actually very close by.
Five minutes later I was standing in the Cavern, 2 meters from the stage. It just blew my mind.

one sweet dream, pick up the bags and get in the limousine. soon we'll be away from here. step on the gas and wipe that tear away. one sweet dream came true today...
Yeah, I made a few pics, but old fashioned ones, no digital ones, so I'll have to be patient for a few days.
It was actually surprising how 'normal' the place was. There were of course some tourists and people looking around in amazement (including me), but there was also a whole bunch of football supporters drinking and talking like it was an average pub, like it wasn't anything special (all I could think was "Dudes, do you have a clue where you actually are?). It was also even smaller than I imagined it. What I also found surprising was that even though the entire street is tastefully dedicated to the Beatles and the Cavern (there's a statue of John Lennon, pubs with Beatles cover bands every day, Beatles giftshops, "Birthplace of the Beatles" banners etc.), the actual Cavern looks very humble from the outside. You hardly even notice it when you walk by.
I've posted this before, but.... I'm going on student exchange to Leeds next year (from Canada) and reading stuff like this makes me sooooo excited for it!!
I had no idea that the entire street around the Cavern was devoted to the Beatles like that!! I'm absolutely going to Liverpool, and I am SO going to London and walking across Abbey Road. Me and another guy from my school have already started planning... we just need two more people in order to take a great picture.
Isnt 'The Cavern' of today, not the original that the Beatles played in? I could have swore that they moved it across the street. Damn, now i'll have to look that up also.
