I think if it wasn`t for Nirvana we would still be suffering the hair spray scarf , spandex wearing poncey bands such as Guns and Roses and Bon Jovi and the rest of the dire brigade of poseing rock[ and i use rock very sadly ] . Kurt Cobain was a savior from all of that corperate rock , so i thank god for Nirvana , i still remember the day when i heard Nevermind So i don`t think they are underated and if you listen to rock in the 80s , then Nirvana its like my god how bad were the 80 s Thank god for Nirvana .
This is just my opinion , and i had to suffer a decade of hell , i suppose you had to be there

U2 have seemed to do good songs 'single-wise' over the years but the rest i find is over-bearing nonsense.
My thoughts precisely. U2 isn't a bad band, but if the question is "who's most overrated," I think they are. They make a good noise, but their lyrics are often excruciating.
One of the best " Rock" albums to come out of the 80's was Tin Machine 's debut from 89 Bowie's forgotten gem ? , it's often overshadowed by the shite 91 follow up , which is a pitty. As the first album is brilliant , Bowie's vocal seldem sounded better and the bands playing is superb " Under The God " the lead off single is a blistering rock record, it only made # 51 in the UK , but it kicks the a** of any rock record of the 80's . And you get a great cover version of Lennon's " Working Cass Hero " on this album , it's a funky Fame kind of redition and a favourite of mine. And there was no spandex with this band , i think this album had a lot of influence on the likes of Nivarna that came two years later ?
I still think the Stones are by far the most overrated band EVER.
I think they were a good band through about Exile On Main Street or maybe It's Only Rock and Roll, after which Mick Taylor left the band. They've been coasting for what... about thirty five years now? Whew.
I think during therir Beatle period they were a fine enough band. Satisfaction, Last Time, Paint It Black etc are all fine singles. I think they really came into their own late sixties, especially with Mick Taylor. Singles like Honky Tonlk woman, Jumping Jack Flash etc are superb. Let It Bleed and Exile On Main Street are great albums. I think they caught the mood of the times and personified the late sixties rock scene more than The Beatles.
