I was talking about music the other day with a girl friend and she knows how much I love the Beatles and how I love music in general.  She then asked me this question, If you were forced to make the choice of being able to listen to only the Beatles music and no other music ever for the rest of your life, or being able to listen to every type and form of music yet never be able to listen to Beatle music again which would you choose??  What a choice!  I couldn't imagine never being able to hear the Beatles again so I picked them.  What would be your choice?

I agree. I'd have to scrap the lads. Theres too much good stuff to be relegated to only one band.

Exactly!  No Beatles ever again?  I couldn't imagine not ever hearing Let It Be again.  But occasionally I like to listen to the Stones or even some Frank Sinatra.  LOL!!  There is a lot of great music out there, but I'm gonna have to go with my beloved Beatles!!

I'd ditch the Beatles. I do love them, but it wouldnt take long before you got sick of hearing JUST them over and over.

And Ydoll, great album. I bought that the other day alongside Highway 61 Revisited. Dylan certainly is amazing.

I have 2000 CDs and records by several hundreds of different artists. So if I'd have to chose between The Beatles and a few hundred other artists that I love or at least like... That wouldn't be an extremely hard decision, to be honest...

Yes: Highway 61 and Blonde are a mind-blowing pair of albums. Quite unique in the annals of rock music.

Highway 61 may get my vote as greatest album ever made.  (Whether or not I pick the Beatles).  These (61, BOB) are absolutely essential albums!

Would the choice includes covers of Beatles song by others?  I just heard the Arthur Lyman hawaiian instrumental of "Yesterday" and it was quite moving.  But I doubt those George Martin orchestral albums would get me very far.

I doubt as much as anyone loves the Beatles, they'd be willing to sacrifice everything else to listen to Revolver or Rubber Soul or Sgt. Pepper's. As great as they are, every person needs variety in their life. A lot of classic rock, some new wave, reggae, punk, folk, HELL even jazz and classical does a person good. MTV can keep their rap though .

No Engelbert Humperdink? No Spice Girls? No Partridge Family? No Rick Dees? Not even Don Johnson or David Hassellhoff? I couldn't listen to any of them ever again? Not even Debbie Boone? Or LaToya Jackson? Could I at least listen to Yoko?

Equal. All the other music combined is equal to the Beatles. So I can't choose. If I were forced, I would go for ... Beatles covers!

Nah, I would go for the others. Sorry Beatles

Tough choice... I could stand listening to nothing but Beatles for a few months, but after a while I would get sick of them. So I really can't choose.

I have to be third here, of course  ...

... if the question would have been: in case you, after answer, could forget their music and you didn't know who the guys were or what they made or even if they would ever exited, would you choose the others' work instead? I'm sure some of those posters from above would change their answers ...

... I mean it's easy to say: give up them! after millions of hours listening to their music but if I would have to take a decision at the end of your life and after having listened to tons of artists I definetelly have to say: give me the guys and keep the whole rest for you, baby! I've said   ...

raxo, it's not that I dislike Bob Dylan as a poet song writer but come on he's known not to have a very good voice. And if thats all I  was listening to I wouldn't be able to tolerate it. But when I hear him on the radio I don't have to change the station. Only a handful of music  groups or solo artists make me do that. Bruce Springteen has the worst voice I have ever heard! He sounds just like he's vomiting to a music backround!  I also can't stand to hear Led Zeppelin,Pink Floyd, Tom Petty and George Thorogood. Jimi Hendrix still sounds good to me though. A few of Bob Dylan's lyrics  are silly though and he just  used them to rhyme the words. For example, the pump don't work cause the vandels took the handels.

Hello fanofthefab4, but I can't accept that as a valid critisism.
"The metre is the rhythm of a poem. Repeating patterns in the metre are an important element - some would say the main element - in the structure of poetry. ..."
None of the words you quote lack meaning or detract from the imagery simply to make them rhyme

John's I Am The Walrus: "I am he as you are he as you are me as we are all together."
Paul's Penny Lane: "he likes to keep his fire engine clean, it's a clean machine."
Do you regard their lyrics as silly?

What a tough choice.  I like other artists and genres of music, but it would be so hard to say good-bye to the boys, since the Beatles have long been my favorite band.  I am leaning towards the Beatles.

i think i would have to go with only Beatles too, because they have such a varity of music, so it would not be like listening to the same thing over and over again, at least not to me. and anyways, im not really in to that many other bands, so i dont think it would be too much of a heartbreak to me.

and besides, you could just stop listening to music for a little while, if you were getting bored with them. its not like you have to listen to them constantly for your whole life!
