In My Life is currently very much in favor among Beatle Fans. But the song is spoiled for me because it contrasts two very different sorts of love. On the one hand, love for the past and the 'people and places that went before'; the old lovers and friends, some of whom are dead. The singer is looking back with love and no regrets. On the other hand, he says all these memories 'lose their meaning'. Why? Because the singer has a new woman. Sorry: but I think that's very shallow. After he tells us of 'new love', he says he'll never lose 'affection' for what went before. Affection? Oh I see, just affection now: earlier he had said he 'loved them all'.
There are places I remember All my life, though some have changed, Some forever, not for better, Some have gone and some remain. All these places had their moments, With lovers and friends I still can recall, Some are dead and some are living, In my life I’ve loved them all. But of all these friends and lovers, There is no one compared with you, And these mem’ries lose their meaning When I think of love as something new. Though I know I’ll never lose affection For people and things that went before, I know I’ll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more. Though I know I’ll never lose affection For people and things that went before, I know I’ll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more. In my life I love you more.
A very good song: definitely; but just a bit overrated these days.
In My Life, definitely. I didn't even think twice about.
I'd have to disagree with YDoll -- I don't think it's shallow. It strikes me as a way to emphasize the importance of this new person. He loves all the memories he's had before, but this one special person is above the rest, thus must be very important to him.
i wouldnt have in my life vs yer blues, its too weak, im mean its blatantly in my life, i mean some peolle think its one of the best beatles albums of all time
In My Life sounds like a drawn out ring tone, especially the instrumentals in the middle. It's just not my type of song.
I've never really liked "Rubber Soul". It's too...awkward. Most of the songs are too twangy or clunky, with the exception of a few. One of my least favorite Beatles albums.
