I don't play anything, but for me a really great bass player is such a joy to listen to. Here's a list of my favourites:

Percy Jones
Tony Levin
Paul McCartney
Jaco Pastorios
Chris Squire
Jack Bruce
Mo Foster
Ron Carter
Arild Andersen

Don't know the last 3. Like  Entwistle?

No. Too many notes!

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

Me fave bassists,

Paul McCartney, Larry Graham, Stanley Clarke, Stuart Zender, Jaco Pastorius, Francis Rocco Prestia, Randy Hope Taylor.

Ones that I also like in a 'should' kinda way...Marcus Miller, Ron Carter, Doug Wimbish, Tony Levin, Jack Bruce, Guy Pratt, Dave Gilmour for his work on The Wall, Caroi King,  Entwistle, Redding etc etc etc. There are so many quality players out there.
