Some changes have been made here. Now, if ne folk stumble across DM's Beatles Forums, they cannot read the discussions etc. They must register first, AND log in.  I would think most new people would therefore pass by: most will not go to the trouble of registering.

Result? Fewer new posters. Every internet forum needs new posters, else it becomes stale very quickly.

And trouble is, I can't see any benefits at all in (a) hiding the product, (b) making even members sign in to just catch up quickly on what's happening.

All in all, a poor decision in my view.

Of course he can do what he likes! The question is,however: IF he wants a vibrant PUBLIC forum, has he done the correct thing?

As I said, I don't think he has ... and it is OK to say this on a public forum.

Tomorrow I just updated forums for the next version 9 and I didn't know some new forum features for that time. I didn't knew that forums were not visible for guests. Now I made it visible again. It's really will atract more new members.

Well I don't know that "happy" is the word, but I think DM has made the right decision. You don't agree, but that's fine. Everyone's entitled.

Regarding the new version of the site - did we all have to change our passwords? Mine actually stopped working because it was too long.

I also agree that it's better to have the forum visible to non-members. I am an avid lurker.
