Came out in paperback in the early 80s,but what makes it great was he went over about every track the beatles had ever done starting from the begining all the way through Double Fantasy,a bunch of the songs he went over were only availiable on bootleg, and I didnt even hear some of them till they showed up on the Anthology,or started getting some boots..really great stuff here!

He did the song by song thing for the later Playboy interview because they were pissed as hell. Playboy was supposed to have THE exclusive interview/story on John, well John being John, he also spoke with 'People' magazine who got their copy to the newsstands first. Sheff or whoever went back to John, super pissed, and he agreed to do the song thing as something special to make up for his faux pas.

John's Playboy interview is about as INTERESTING as you get seeing where was he was at promoting Double Fantasy before his untimely death which is why I don't think there would have been a Beatles reunion had he lived from his remarks at the time.
I want you, I want you so bad babe. I want you, I want you so bad. It's driving me mad, it's driving me mad.

I wouldn't say he was petty but he was PISSED off during the Playboy interview which is why I don't think there would have been any Beatles reunion had he lived.
