Which of the following do you consider a positive role model for society?
· Paul McCartney = 39% · Bono = 19% · Eminem = 7% · Britney Spears = 4% · Liam Gallagher = 3% · None of the above = 37%
What does Bono need to do? He has played a pivotal role in raising awareness of the plight of Africa, campaigned tirelessly in the cause of debt relief and demonstrated through his open Christianity that the Devil doesn't necessarily have all the best tunes. Despite all this he is considered a positive role model for society by half as many as Paul McCartney, a man who campaigned for the legalization of marijuana and was arrested in Japan for possession of the drug but, crucially it seems, was a member of The Beatles. Paul McCartney seems to benefit from the recognition factor, especially among those aged 45+ who seem largely unaware of who, or indeed what, Bono is.
One in five aged 16-24 consider Eminem to be a positive role model, despite his predilection for violent, homophobic and misogynistic lyrics. These appear to be forgivable traits whilst being Liam Gallagher appears to be less forgivable. Only 3% consider him to be a positive role model.
That's stupid. Maybe people consider Paul a good role model because of his charity work? (and I don't mean just with PETA) or the fact that he raised decent, non-screwed up kids? Didn't marry half a dozen sluts and then cheat on them with other sluts? Or maybe it's the fact that he's a musical genius? I don't agree with his views regarding marijuana, however, you have to take into account that he was the last Beatle to try LSD and used it the least, even though he was more open about it. And he didn't get into any hard drugs like cocaine or heroin, either. Lastly, he was a pivotal member of the most important band in history.
You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you.
I don't know, paraphrasing what junior said in another thread, who they poll is just as important as the results. For all I know, they could have polled 1000 potheads.
