Yes, but if you didn't tell them, they might not ever go and discover them on their own. You can't explain how it is, but you can give them a taste. I think you're right though. You can't make a compilation if you don't know the music. That's why he asking people that do to help him.
Right, but the poor guy has to have it and digest it and go from there. It would like me trying to put together a kick a** T-Rex compilation and I only know "Get It On".
Yeah, true. I'm still perplexed about the whole blues thing. I mean, I never thought of the Beatles as blues. I mean, Eric Clapton maybe, but the Beatles? They were more into that motown sound. Which kinda got far away from the blues stuff. But that's just me. Maybe I haven't listened to enough blues to really hear it much in their music.
the beatles were more bluesy back in the beginning i think......when they did things like clarabella, slow down, and a few others....they also had a rockabilly type country thing going on with things like be bop a lula, matchbox, picture of you,act naturally, and others.i think the blend of country and blues dominates alot of the pieces...of course paul is more country sounding on tunes than george but then georges best friends were perkins and clapton.country was were carl sprang from.he probally charted on country and rock charts but i don't put stock in charts....they are organized religion for idiots.no personal rainbow brite.....but back to the blues.i sort think authur alexander was kinda blues as were the coaster...remember there was no rock to influence the pre teen beatles....i think lonnie fired all their imaginations towards being in music, even ringos.but blues and country was strong b4 rock. throw in some progressive jazz and you got rock and rolls recipe pretty much....it is funny that some of their idol eventually idolized them... alvin lee plays dynamite blues...well i'm rambling...did i make any sense?????
The Beatles never did Blues, some peppy R&B stuff mixed with some Country-tinged music, but classic blues type stuff-never. Maybe '12 Bar Original' counts, but other that that, nada.

Sorry Appy, you got it wrong again. The guy is doing more than that. He pops up on this forum and starts saying ridiculous things (on another thread) such as that Abbey Road was the start of "hard rock". Here he is again, rabbitting on about "guitar-driven blues".
In my book, if you want to generalize about an artist and their work, you have to KNOW their work first.
To do otherwise is foolish and arrogant.
I see your point but do you not consider that there are many different ages and levels of Beatle awareness on these forums? Why be so damning? Is there not a better way to suggest he may have got it wrong than this?...'Yeah, yeah, a great sob story.'
That's all I'm tryin to say without trying to get in yet another of your 'Stoush's.'

While My Guitar Gently Weeps is pretty bluesy, but the tracks most influenced by the blues are probably Yer Blues + Revolution 1 from The White Album, For You Blue from Let It Be and All Together Now from Yellow Submarine (just kidding about that last one of course!!!!!!).
I have always been all about not caring one whit about the "layers of strata" of Beatles fandom. One guy is as good as the next, whether he's been a fan for 40 years or a fan for 2 months and just got White Album a couple weeks ago. They're both as important, and they both have something interesting to say.
