I'm now listening to the jam section of ATMP and on "I Remember Jeep" you got these alien spaceship zap effects. Is this a Moog at work here or what? I downloaded this so I don't have the liner notes. Fill me in please.
The sounds you hear actually came from another album recording by George Harrison. That album is "Electronic Sounds" and the noise you ask about is a moog synth I believe and that specific part is probably the first sample in recorded music too (don't quote me on that!) as George took it from that noise-art album and put it onto his All Things Must Pass album.
Hope that helps. Now go buy the album and stop downloading lol
Actually a guy named Krause was demo'ing a Moog to George and that's how 'Electronic Sound' came about. It wasn't even George. You'll see Krause's name silvered over on the cover.
Of all groups, it was the Monkees who first to use a Moog on their Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones Ltd album in '67. Micky Dolenz caught demo of one by Bob Moog himself and was wowed by it. So they used it on 2 cuts, Daily Nightly and Star Collector.

Bernie Krause isn't just any old bloke though he was a pioneer of synthesiser music in the 60's and he really helped mould and perform on the Electronic Sound album of Georges. On the original artwork his name was visible yes but for some reason it was inked out later.

I never knew that.
Now tell me who first sampled from one song to another.
Still waiting for the End to check whether the Tomorrow Never Knows guitar break is Pauls Taxman solo reversed. If it is, then there's your first sampling. Get to work End! I'll dig out Lewisohn's book and check it out too.

OK, I have checked - it seems all the guitar tracks for Tomorrow Never Knows were recorded on Weds 6th April 1966, vocals and sitar were added on - Taxman was almost entirely recorded on Thurs 21st April. So, it doesn't seem possible that the solo for Taxman was used for TNK. Hope that clears things up

But it could be possible in reverse: record the TMK-solo backwards and use it later on in Taxman, playing forward.
