Hey, did anyone (I'm sure most did) notice that in the second verse of MSH, Paul laughs during it. What was the reasoning behind this? John make a funny face at him or something? |

Yeah, he laughs during the line " Writing fifty times I must not be so-o-o-o". It might be deliberate or one of those happy accidents that The Beatles used to enjoy so much - ie maybe Paul laughed during the line, everyone liked it so they kept it in! |

thats a reasonable explanation but the mooning thing is still funny as hell
Oh yeah, mooning was rife during the Abbey Road sessions - George Martin was the worst culprit!! LOL |

I think the mooning was in relation to the phrase "So he waits behind" |

I always thought it was deliberate. One of them Mccartney touches. |

Yeah I agree with Indy here....He does it in I Got A Feeling aswell...Almost a party trick by this stage of their recording career.
If you buy the book Revolution In The Head it has quite a few laugh observations in it. |

To me it's a song which would have sounded fine on Sgt. Pepper's, with the production approach of the time. Ringo's anvil banging is about the only interesting thing about it to me. I guess if anyone knows why he laughed, it's Paul himself. He also laughs in Two Of Us. |

I think he just laughed cuz someone did something. Probably John. If you watch them in videos, Paul often has to hold back laughter at something John is doing. Like they Hey Jude video. Paul looks like he's going to laugh a couple of times at least. The best is the We Can Work it Out video. Man would I LOVE to hear what they're really doing. |

I thought it was Mal Evans banging the anvil. |

I can't remember where, but somewhere on the net I found credits stating that Ringo was responsible. |

That's true. In fact, our very own DM's site says so:
Recorded: July 9, 1969 at Abbey Road, London, England with overdubs added July 10-11, 1969 and August 6, 1969 John Lennon - lead guitar, harmony vocal Paul McCartney - lead vocal, bass guitar, guitar, piano, background vocal George Harrison - four-string guitar, acoustic guitar, Moog synthesizer, background vocal Ringo Starr - drums, anvil, background vocal George Martin - organ |

Actually, I thought it was there I saw it. Only, I was too lazy to check! Now I'm looking, I wonder what a four-string guitar is here. An acoustic bass perhaps? |

I agree. It might be deliberate... because, only fifty times? ... and that short line: "I Must Not Be So"? ... How much time? 75 or 80 seconds of time, ridiculous. Its Paul being diferent... in his way (laughing or whatever). |

It must be true but dont trust too much in that or look at this http://dmbeatles.com/disk.php?category=1&id=6and tell whos wrong, because George said in Anthology Book that he played the bass in Drive My Car. So is said here http://www.upv.es/~ecabrera/40 years and we dont agree, what a world this one!!! Ringo at Maxwell: http://www.upv.es/~ecabrera/ |
