You what would be cool seeing as we have SO many musicians here?! If someone could make a basic backing track and send it on to to another forum musician where he would add his bit and send it on to another musician etc etc!

How cool would that be??!!!!

First we need drums and bass I reckon........ over to you.......

Yep. If a drummer chose a tempo and length, I could get started on a bass line right away...Alternatively, I don't mind waiting to put a vocal down if someone else fancies some bassing.

This could be fun.

Hmm, I'll let Apps step up to the Bass challenge...being the seasoned professional
I'm currently working on my 'Silly-Album' so I'm sort of creative-wise..drained.

But I'lll help with lyrics etc..I'll put some ideas foward if I think it could make it better

Actually, being a fan of design etc..
I could make a sort of Single Cover.
You know, the art design side of things, I'll nominate myself.

lol!!!! Gotta be a group effort. Maybe a big ol choir ensemble to involve as many as possible.. We need a casting list. Heres just a spurt of idea's I come up with.....

A brief to move things along...

2.15 secs in length

Lead Vocals (Could be more than one)

Backing Vocals

Guitar- Acoustic

Guitar - Electric

Piano/Hammond/Rhodes/Wurlitzer/Moog etc. lol

Bass

Drums

Percussion (A few participators here perhaps?)

Producer - (Someone to host and maybe finally mix the track?)

Artist

Lyricist (Verse) and (Chorus)

We can all be photographers...maybe an image editor? lol

Maybe then a pvt. vote/lottery or something to see who gets what? Just trying to keep this as open as possible...Or, first come first served, get it done and start another sond with a different cast?

Should we start with a lyricist? I'm gonna pick the chord of A - minor (My fave) to start things off.

Another idea...If there was an MP3 link on this thread, whoever was doing the music could d/load and import it to their PC's to add track and send to.....who? (Someone who is organised and good at hosting things...aaheemmm Al? Bobber? lol

This has endless permatations......

Me? Organised? LOL!
Uuh, that's okay, I can do the hosting of course. I'm not sure if it's really necessary however. I think the main thing first is to determine a program we can all work with. Anybody can add tracks then. But somebody has got to do the final mix of course. Like Apps suggested, when everybody is enjoying this, we can do it with more than one song, with diferrent people working on this. Again, I don't mind hosting all this and keep an eye on things, but maybe it's possible to open some kind of thread where people can pick up songs or whatever. You got any ideas on this, Al?

My mom has this thing that converts LPs and tapes to CDs, so if I just tape myslef singing, and make it into a CD, I could put it on the internet. Yeah.

Would have to make sure you were singing at the right tempo. Then the wonders of cut and paste can arrange your vocal parts.

A cheap PZM microphone 30 pounds - 60 bucks, a boss compressor/sustain pedal 40quid/80bucks and the mic line into your PC and you got a studio bro.

You may have to d/load cubase or something. The PZM would work wonders on your kit all by itself...Trust me.

Does this mean the Ringo seat is still vacant? lol

Don't worry about the hosting of the track, I can upload so everyone can get involved, I think we just need a continuity though - so after the bass and drums are sorted it would get passed onto the next person to add their bit etc etc. It would be better to do it in turn.

What I was thinking was to record the tracks in two track stereo, so as each new track is recorded I can add it to the master mix. That way tempo and pitch would not be an issue - as in the following example:

Track 1 panned left - drums
Track 2 panned right - bass
Send takes to Alan - Alan mixes tracks 1 & 2 to multitrack then mixes the two tracks to one track ready for the next person.
Alan sends mix on to the next person
Track 3 (panned left) - drums and bass (this is a mix of tracks 1 & 2)
Track 4 - panned right - rhythm guitar is added
Send take to Alan - Alan copies track 4 to multitrack then mixes all the tracks together to one track ready for the next person.
Track 5 (panned left) - a mix of drums, bass and rhythm guitar (from tracks 1, 2 & 4)
Alan sends on to the next person.
Track 6 (panned left) - a mix of drums, bass rhythm guitar (a mix of tracks 1, 2 & 4)
Track 7 - panned right - lead guitar is added
Send take to Alan - Alan copies track 7 to multitrack then mixes all the tracks to one track for the next person.
Track 8 (panned left) - a mix of drums, bass, rhythm and lead guitar(from tracks 1, 2, 4 & 7)
Alan sends on to the next person

Etc etc for 16 tracks in total if necessary!

Hope that all makes sense!

I reckon maybe 4 minutes would be better though rather than 2 minutes.

Think along the following structure I think...

INTRO
VERSE
CHORUS
VERSE
CHORUS
MIDDLE 8
VERSE
CHORUS x 2

What d'ya reckon?

I said 2-15 just to make it as short as a good Beatle pop tune. Also for file transferring byut if 4mins can be handled, even better.

I've said Aminor, whats the style...Should we base the tempo on a mutually acceptable Beatle track?

Just for tempo purposes, I was thinking of Ask Me Why - a sort of mid-tempo.

With regards to the style - fairly bright and cheery, I reckon, but that will probably be dictated by chords.

What does everyone else think?
