Eddie gets high as Kite

Izzard lands role in Beatles movie

Eddie Izzard is to star opposite Bono in a new film based on the songs of the Beatles.

The comic plays Mr Kite in the movie Across the Universe, now in production in New York.

It  has been written by sitcom veterans Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, the duo behind Porridge, The Likely Lads and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

It is a romantic musical, told mainly through Beatles songs, in which a young man from Liverpool comes to America during the Vietnam War to find his father, ending up in Greenwich Village.

The film is directed by Julie Taymor, who was previously responsible for the London and Broadway stage versions of The Lion King.

Hmmm, hope this doesn't turn out to be another film like that Sgt Pepper film which starred Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees!!

Bono is one of the most nauseating rock stars of all time with his holier than thou image since I have seen him more on TV & in the media the last 5 years than with his band in over 20.  IMHO, seeing him in a Beatles related movie is about as sick as you can get without vomiting.

It could be quite good actually. In a trippy sort of way. Mr. Kite is Eddie Izzard. We don't know.

U2’s Bono recently filmed his role in “Across the Universe,” an upcoming musical romance which features classic Beatles music and stars Evan Rachel Wood (“Thirteen”).
According to MTV, the singer plays a spiritual character named Dr. Robert, who will deliver several pivotal lines and sing “I Am the Walrus.”
Set in the ‘60s, the movie will feature 18 songs by the Beatles and characters from those numbers, but it will not be about the legendary group. Wood plays Lucy (as in “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”), an American girl who meets a young man named Jude. Jude, played by British actor Jim Sturgess, has arrived in New York from Liverpool and winds up protesting against the Vietnam war.
Julie Taymor, who helmed the hit stage version of “The Lion King,” directs the movie.
The film is currently in production and will hit theatres in 2006.

Mr. Cynical again!? If Lennon were still with us, a lot of people might be saying the same about him! Would you go along with that? Bono is just one of a small number of rock celebs who really care about what's going on. The really nauseating ones are the silly here-today, gone-tomorrow popsters who just want to get the attention of young people onto their silly over-inflated, management-produced egos! They could be saying and doing positive stuff too. The more the better! More bonos please!

you...did not...diss...one of the best rockers on and off stage....

where's the shotgun...you f*cking dumbass. the only reason you should hate him is because he made Pop, but thats only because everyone hates them for doing that mess...even them

wayne...do not diss U2 and/or bono, the band themselves have some of the best rock music and bono has done more for getting aid to those that need it then any other musician

Seems to me that Wayne lacks both compassion AND empathy!

He should also have more respect for Bono as a music great, as you strongly pointed out.

People without compassion make me disgusted and angry!

wayne, i hope larry mullen Jr. comes over to your house and shoves his drumsticks up your a**. then you may actually feel some of the pain that those Bono is trying to help feel.

U2's music alone is enough to get them into the hall. then there's the fact they lasted 26 years and still get on top every new album, and the singer helps out not only the poor nations of the world, but he also is probably the only musician that has taken the time to talk to world leaders...and they listen to him

and one more thing, ever hear "New Years Day"?

that song actually lifted the New Years curfew on the polish during the cold war. how does he suck if he can make millions of poles' life so much easier?

He's even humble enough to tell people in his acceptance speech of the Nobel Peace Prize, that there are much more out there that have done more then he has that deserve it.

how does that make him holier then thou?
